I Can buy back my OWN car!!! Stolen..Recovered..Salvaged..Now Buying back from Insurance??
To make a long story short...My 99 GSR was stolen and was recovered
after they stripped off the interior( Front and Back seats, Door panels, power window switches, Trunk Lid, Rear tail lights, center console, Glove box
assebly, CD, radio, Seat belts cut-off, Key lock in the steering column messed up etc). They haven't touched the engine or exterior. Earlier Insurance people agreed to repair the car. Since the insurance can't repair it with NEW parts (Total repair bill is more than $12000 because of the prices of the NEW parts involved) they have decided to TOTAL the car.
Now more surprises ...Insurance has agreed to sell me back the Salvaged car since they can't find a SIMILIAR 4-Door sedan !!!!!. I have got only 20K miles on my 99 GSR. Literally babied it for the last two years. Loan already paid back so no financing stuff needed.
Now the questions
1)Should I buy it back? How much should I pay for MY car?
2) I have a feeling that insurance is going to give me decent amount when they Total the car so how much can I expect for my car?
3) Considering the fact that I can get most of the stuff from internet (Ebay etc..) and resale vale of a Salvaged car is less, is there any other points I should consider?
4) Is it worth the effoerts? Should I just get the money and go for a WRX or something?
I nedd to decide on this by Monday so let me know what you guys think..
Thanks in advance...

when they total the car, they ussually give u bluebook for it. If I was you, take the money and get another cars, ITR, or a used TT supra, I wouldnt go for a WRX personally, but that is your choice, i say forget the GSR, get another car.
Well, maybe i'd be worth your while to get the GSR and sell it for parts?
Sell the motor, and the shell?
Sell the motor, and the shell?
it depends on how much they will sell it to you for..... it always sucks to have a salvage title on your car though
Nah don't buy back the gsr even tho you can sell parts and engine since you said nothing happen to it but you won't make enough money to buy another car. I'd say get the RSX, WRX, ITR, GST, Supra, LS you should have extra money and turbo it i doubt it. Or another GSR
hehe good luck man that suck about what happen to your car.

If I were going to buy it, it wouldn't be to rebuild it, but to see if I could make a profit off the engine/trannyetc., or, to use the engine as a modification project to drop in another car.
I don't know what salvage value is on a `99....my `91 2G RS was $750, and fully fixable, they just decided they didn't want to put the money into the body panels when they could pay me cash and be done with me. I bought the car, and I sold it to the body shop owner I was at.
Yours is probably worth more, but find out what a low-mileage B18C1 engine/tranny is going for, and if they offer it to you for close to that, take it.

Yeah.. I was also thinking about getting rid of it but after hearing the salvage price they are offering for me I am again thinking about it buying it back
SALVAGE PRICE : $5400!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!
Remember this is for a 99 GSR with 20K miles without interior. GSR Leather seats in top condition sells in Ebay for $500. I think for another $1500 to $2000
I can make my car back to where it was!!!!!
Guys what do you think? SALVAGE PRICE : 5400!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

im pretty sure they wrote you a check for about 18,000.. if so here is what you do.. if they only stripped the interior you can buy most of the stuff you need used on the internet. so figure it this way..
18,000 dollars from insurance company for your loss
5,400 to buy the car back
12,600 dollars to play with.. minus about 3-4000(estimate for interior)
which means you have about 7000 dollars to hook up your engine rims etc...
I MADE 10,000 DOLLAR PROFIT OFF OF MY CAR

better yet... i got a better idea.. buy the car back
buy a hatch with interior or without .. it really doesnt matter since you will be putting in some nice recaros
.. sell the engine of the hatch to make some money.. sell your gsr shell. and drop your gsr engine in the hatch with a nice big TURBO....
Think about it!

See if you can find someone who wants to really turn a 4 door gsr into a racer or do it yourself. All you need is one seat, a roll cage, fuel cell, and some engine and suspension work.
Id defintely buy it back, if you have the time and resources.
$5400 for the car
$700 interior
PW Switches - $20
Trunk Lid - $100
Rear Tails - $75 (cut corners and get the 94-97)
center console - $100
seat belts - $50
Head Unit - $50
Steering Column fixed - who knows...but lets just say $500
Youre looking at a 99 4 drGSR with Salvage title for the low low price of $6995...sell it for even $12k and theres $5g's in your pocket...now you have $23k to play with for the new car.

I am pretty sure about the prices of the seats on Ebay..which is around $500 to $700 but not sure about the 4 door panels, center console, trunk lid etc...still can't decide????
Anybody else with some other opinions? I will have to decide by tomorrow

actually i don't think the value should go down that much because there's no frame damage, it's just a stripped interior, go for it!! it'd be a nice project plus you get profit when you sell it!!
BTW - if you're looking for some taillights for the integra sedan, i happen to be selling mine check it out here http://members.home.net/keys115/partssale.htm

You figure the car is good for at least $16k with a clean title...$12 or $13k for a 2yr old GSR with 20k in great condition is a steal.
Hmm...if youre gonan swap the motor out..I dont know if Id buy it back.
You can get a GSR swap for alot less then $5400. The only other thing you could use off the car would be the brakes..but you can get a brake setup from a Teg for like $500.
I would buy it back and put it back together...get some nice aftermarlet seats..it'll look good.
Or..make it into a full race car. Drop a turbo into it...leave it stripped and buy a seperate daily driver
