Poor mileage caused by coolant temperature sensor?
Hi,
It's been quite long time I have a poor mileage in my 94 VTEC. I can only drive 250miles to make the tank empty. I did care to drive very soft and easy while testing my mileage and it didn't change...
So few days ago I went to dealership and had a diagnostic computer connected. It appeared that coolant temperature sensor (this one in the block under distributor) sends fake readings to ECU. Fans start normally when engine is hot but sensor shows only 78 degrees centigrade. We couldn't even achieve 80 degrees to perfom whole test
So I think that this sensor is cheating ECU and ECU "thinks" that engine is still cold and I'm running too rich and that's the cause of that poor mileage. What's your opinions about that? I'll be replacing this sensor ASAP BTW.
Thanks
pentaq
