Oil cooler lines leaking??
I keep having oil dripping down onto my header and creating smoke from the header being hot. Its embarassing. I've tighted the filter down as tight as i can get it and the bottom of it has oil on it. My next guess of the leak is from the oil cooler or oil pressure sensor. If the leak is from the oil cooler, when i take the black hoses off, will oil shoot everywhere, or do i have to drain teh engine like im doing an oil change and refill it.
Thx.
Thx.
Pair of black hoses are coolant, not oil.
Regardless of being empty or not, coolant and oil will drip down when you remove the hoses and oil cooler. It's just a matter of how much. If you drain the coolant in the block below the level of the oil cooler, it won't empty out as much coolant. You won't need to drain the oil pan. Just let it sit for a while after removing the oil filter to let the oil cooler empty out.
I'd check the oil cooler flange where the filter sits on for debris and clean it first. Doubling up gaskets or debris can inhibit oil filer gasket sealing. Unlikely that it's double-gasketed...would have already sprung a loud leak.
