Default My first Evo School

I signed up for my first Evolution Driving School (focused on autocrossing).
http://autocross.com/evolution/

I'm really looking forward to it and was wondering if anyone here would be interested in sharing their experiences with this school. The good, the bad and the silly all welcome.

I'm expecting my tires to be quite worn by the end of the day.
I am however wresting with a tire issue, is it better to do this on street tires or R-compounds? I've been on Rs since late last year and the whole season so far this year. I'm torn between driving the limits the way my car is usually set up, and the cost factor and experimental factor of being on street tires.

edited for grammar

Id say learn on what you plan to use for competition.

The Evo School is the best mod I've done with my money so far.

if the first two phases of Evo Schools it doesn't matter what you're driving or what tires your on. The skills being taught are universal.

I also want to add, the EVO school marked the ending of my being unneccessarily hard on my tires and brakes when I auto-x.

I did more runs at EVO I & II than at a practice day a month earlier, but had far less tire wear, I guess because I was learning to drive so much smoother at EVO.

Lucky bastard!
I can't wait for one of those schools to come to SoCal again.

Have fun!

Run your Azenis. Two things you will learn... you will figure out where and how not to overdrive the car (HUGE tire saver), and "smooth.. smooth... gas gas gas, look at the next section, keep your head moving, keep those hands moving.. SMOOTH"
pickup the next section way sooner than you thought possible.

I've missed it almost 2 years in a row, and I almost missed this one. I understand and hear your pain.

What exactly is the second thing I'll learn? smooth, gas, look ahead, hands?
Yeah that quote sounds almost scary familiar. lol

After having pointed out some positives, one instructor said something like this, "I have no idea what you're doing with your hands... or how to begin to describe it." I know this is at least one thing I need to work on.

I'm struggling with the whole Front drive car and late apex, early brake thing. I know I brake early enough, but I'm afraid I'm not taking full advantage of techniques like trailbraking and left foot braking, and also afraid I'm not carrying enough speed into certain turns, especially longer sweeping turns.

I think I look ahead, but I'm sure I don't, at least not enough or consistantly enough.

Saving tires and running the Azenis.
