Autometer Shift-Light Installation problems....HELP! (search done already)
Hey,
Last night I was installing my shift-light and used a few of the old achieved threads as my guide.
I had no problems removing the old bezel so that was fine.
Now I hooked up the red wire off the light to a positive (+) ignition screw on the back of the gauge cluster.
I hooked the black wire off the light to a bolt on the chassis.
and I hooked the green wire off the light to a blue wire in the middle harness on the back of the gauge cluster.
When I turned the car on, the light turned on also for a few seconds then shut off.
When I went for a test drive to see if the light would come on at the pill setting I had installed, it did not.
Can anybody help me with what wire in the back of the cluster I need to tap into?
A picture would be most helpful.
Thanks in advance.

Without having the Helms in front of me I cant tell you for certain what the wire color is but if you look at the circuit traces on the back of the cluster you can figure it out. The tach (like all the gauges) has three wires going into it, a positive, a negative, and a signal. The screws that hald the gauge in the housign also connect the circuitry so look at the screw heads. The positive and negative are definitely marked with a little (+) and (-) sign. The signal may have a little (s) next to it but if not, you should still be able to figure it out.
Then just trace that circuit back to the plug to see what wire its connected to.

Hard to see, but it should be the blue wire with silver spots in the harness that plugs in right behind the tach & water temp.
