Default HELP: MOTORBUILDERS!!!!! NEED HELP WITH HIGH B16 PISTON/HEAD CLEARANCE

Here's the problem in a nutshell: I have a b16a block that's sleeved and had to be decked to insure an even surface. My Endyn/Rollerwave Wiseco pistons are 84.5mm and are sitting slightly out of the hole. I had the pistons HPC coated as can be seen in these pics. My head is blue printed and the chambers are cc'd so as to be 41.7 cc each. The red marks indicate where the piston is making contact with the head. This is with the head torqued to only 30 ft-lbs. The contact is not so severe as to eliminate movement, but this is only with a small amount of torque holding the head down. If I reshape the combustion chamber I change the dynamics of the head which was done by Alaniz Technologies. If I machine the pistons I probably will have to have them recoated by HPC. I am running a cometic head gasket for an 84.5mm bore from Golden Eagle.
What are your suggestions?

Get a thicker head gasket. Or you have more machine work to have done.

To me it looks like you are gonna need machine work regardless, geez, how much did they remove off the deck of your block? If you stick with either the block or head, you might not be able to use the other looks like. The head doesnt have any more room to cut down the quench pads. The intake valves look like they are at the very edge already. And also, the combustion chambers need to be opened up some more on the sides for those pistons

Head gasket is a good idea. you can also get the head re worked. either way you will compression not much though it shouldnt be enough to hurt the performance of the engine. try a .040 cometic or as needed. good luck!! oh to add why did yuou get dished vales?? weight or just casue you should have got flat faced, you could of had a smidge more compression, but what is done is done. also im not a head expert but i think you dont have a 41 cc chamber it might more or less looks like they did some work to the combutsion chamber, but i dont know how much your head is milled

looks like u should have opened up the head too. the combustion chambers look reworked but still stock. u will get hot spots on the edges of the head possibly causing detonation. open up the head, get higher compression pistons to compensate for material lost and u should b in good shape.

I usually experience this with the GSR head and the Endyn 84.5mm high dome pistons, I get away with adequate clearance with a 57 thou cometic gasket, obviously at the cost of lower compression. That is the simplest route to follow at this point IMO. If you take it to a machinist to open up you're looking at two choices, the **** ones will write a program for their machine to open chamber (correct way to do it) other people will simply try to grind away at the chamber to the markings (is that from your head porter ?) you current have on there ... If it was your head porter's marking then its fairly accurate but it will require more than simply grinding away as the 4 chambers need to be perfectly centered.

with that small ammount of material...I would methodically use a die grinder. tha's me tho...of have a machine shop do it.

I cant see your pictures anymore, but are you sure your have 41.7cc's in the head. I just cc'd a b16 head that was milled 27 thousands and had 37.4 cc. Anyways we have used 2 head gaskets in your situation and still made 234whp. Just spray some copper stuff between the head gaskets. In fact our pistons cam out of the block almost exactly like yours, and we couldnt turn the motor over.
Good luck

Can two headgaskets be used? I think I'm going to run into a problem with the motor I bought. It's a b16 with JUN IIIs milled head .030 and a 1 layer hg. I was thinking about pulling the head and adding a full 3 layer HG, but then I'll lose compression. Can I add CTR pistons and maybe like a 5 layer HG?

yea but after 3000 miles the engine willbe ready fora rebuild<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by omniman &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">this is what happens when people spend too much time on the insignificant and end up over looking the significant! the coating on the tops of the pistons... it wont be there after your first oil change(money wasted). good luck</TD></TR></TABLE>

You haters should keep to yourselves. Building your own motor is a rewarding and learning process. That is the reason I wouldn't order a motor from you all's monkey-asses. By the way I decided to get the chambers opened up and cc'd again as per Joe Alaniz's advice.
