Just finished installing A/C stuff; now have low idle probs....
Hey all. I just put an A/C system in my '99 DX and on the way home it seemed a little down on power (figured that might be because of the compressor) but it idles really really low at stoplights and while coasting. I haven't had the system charged yet so I didn't have the A/C on but maybe it's trying to run the compressor anyway?
I doubt it but is it possible I didn't get the belt tensions right? I don't see why that would cause many problems at all....
Any ideas? Many thanks,
Greg

And couldn't that be bad for it? Try (I know this is hard) going to the dealer and ASKING questions and see if you can glean some info from a mechanic about what the prob. is. I had a rough idle I couldn't fix and I talked to the mechanic and he said throw some I.M. cleaner in it and that should clean it out.......it did and I have my happy idle back now.

your car never had A/C before right? usually when the A/c turns on the car increases the idle to compensate for the drag on the motor. Did the dealer turn up the idle when they installed the A/C? if not you should turn the idle screw to allow more air to get in your engine. im not sure how much it will drag when you actually have freon in the system and running the A/C at the same time.
Thanks for the replies, all.
I didn't even realize there was an idle screw on the Hondas; just thought everything is computer controlled. I'll try looing for that and se if that might be the problem.
As for cleaning the IM and talking to teh dealer; good ideas, both. I've had to clean the IM a couple of times with some throttle body cleaner because of a low idle problem that usually seemed to happen in cold weather. It felt like a different problem thoguh a dn this only started happening after I finished puttting the A/C on last night.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks
