We'll, here is the deal. I have a full exhaust on my car, and just put a header on my DOHC ZC. The exhaust system use to sound nice and low and powerful, but now its a raspy rattling sort of sound. Can someone please explain why adding the header made it sound like this? Is it because it now pushes more CFM? Also, What does Inlet/Outlet mean when it comes to mufflers/exhaust? What is a good inlet/outlet to have for a nice powerful low sound? Someone told me that i should get a truck muffler tip and weld that onto my exhaust and that will get rid of the nasty raspy sound? How does it do this? Mostly im just looking to learn about why me exhaust sounds like this, and how i can make it sound nice and deep. Here are some pics ive taken of my exhaust. I dont know what kind it is, if you do, please tell me, or least take a general guess... it came on my car.. thank you.

if you want a deep sound, you have to get an apexi n1 style, because those have the most air flow.
the regular magnaflows have raspy sound, and from the lok of the muffler, it looks like a magnaflow

okay, apexi n1 style muffler, just the tip or the whole thing? I see them on ebay pretty cheap.. any other suggestions? Anyone got some answers to my questions about cfm etc.. What would happen if i just got a bigger exhaust tip for like a truck or something?
alright, ill help as much as i can:
inlet: the pipe coming out of the muffler that heads up towards the engine
outlet: the pipe coming out of the muffler that goes to the tip.
as for why its lowder, its because now more exhaust is able to flow through the muffler, well, its still the same amount of exhaust as before coming out, although it can now flow through bigger pipes, therefore i believe there would be less back pressure, which would make the change in sound.
i may be wrong with some of this info, but this is what I believe is correct.
hope it helped a bit

So i need to buy a full muffler and not just an exhaust tip? Hmm are there any like the style i have right now that would sound good? I dont really want to have the kind where the tip goes like 2 inches then right into the muffler.. it just looks ricey and attracts attention that i dont need.

If im going to get something with like a 2.5" inlet, how do i convert the last pipe into the muffler to 2.5" if its not already that? Also, whats a good outlet size?
there are a few things that make exhaust sound change... size of pipe, bends, resonators, glasspacks, mufflers, cats, tips wont do much unless its reasonated....
my friend has es muffler with test pipe and it was very very loud(can be heard 1/2 mile away) and raspy, but then he put on a 22" glasspack and it is very quiet now... even more quiet than my greddy sp!!

Stock cat
Turbo muffler from any exhaust shop
And i have a 2.25 in pipe coming out the back to make it look more stock
I have a quiet sounding exhaust that is nice and throaty when i jump on it,
Plus when im at the top of a gear you can hear my cam scream like its about to break!!!

what size piping is your friend running?

alright, just do half of what i did, go to the muffler shop, weld on a turbo muffler (flows the same but sounds nice) and then put a pipe that runs from the turbo to your back bumper, will look stock, and it will sound nice as hell, plus it will only cost you with labor and stuff like maybe 60 bucks

i think just a resonator and an exhaust thats know for not bein loud like the n1 or a w.s. would solve your problems somewhat. puttin the header on there is lettin a lot more air flow through there. and make sure the cat is still in place as well. that should kinda help a little..

you can put a resonator pretty much any where you want, the stock one is between the cat and the muffler though.
