93 civic hatch engine into 89 civic sedan
I was wondering how hard it would be to put a engine from a 93 civic hatch into my 89 civic sedan. my friend is swaping his motor out and i need a motor for my car to just get it running. what all would i need from his car to install the motor into mine. thanks
Easy. Reuse your distributor and intake manifold, ecu, and bolt it in. You'll have to modify the driver's side engine mount bracket off of your stock engine to work on the 92+ engine (by grinding an edge off so it doesn't hit the timing belt). Reuse your stock transmission too.

I'm feeling nice today so i'll try to help you out.
answer these questions:
1) what motor/car is your friend have
2) what civic do you have?
3) are you trying to do this swap for power or just so that your car has a motor?

The motor is a D15Z1 out of a Civic Vx. It is the vtec-e motor. My Civic is a 89 civic LX with the D15B2, i just need the motor.
ok heres what you can do.
all you need is the LONG BLOCK....(from the oil pan up to the valve cover) no need for VX intake manifold, header, distributor, tranny, sensors, fuel rail.
what you do is switch of your LX parts onto the newer VX longblock...such as the fuel rail, intake manifold, headers, and some of the sensors. It should be super easy and plug & play! what you'll end up with is a strong healthy motor that can still dish out another 100k.... make sure you do not mess up with the wiring...not that it should be a problem.
sound simple enough right.... you should be do this in less then 3 hours MAX.
you can also use your stock tranny and all the stock mounts. the ONLY mount that you will need that is different is the DRIVERside mount from the VX motor.
and don't worry about the vtec you can drive just fine with out it ever hooked up. If you want to hook it up it's much more harder to do since you have a LX and not a si

Thanks a lot. Would it be worth it to hook up the vtec, because in about a month or to i plan on buying a b16a out of a EG6 civic from the same guy. He has a B18C1 that he is putting in his hatch next. Thanks again!

hum seeing that its a VX I honeslty wouldn't even bother. I mean I know your going vtec later but the VX vtec engament point is very different for z6 and y8. Also that vtec was manily made for better fuel economy at low rpms. Do make that vx run properly with the use of vtec you'd have to use tha VX ecu. I mean you could TRY to hook it up with a MSD activation switch like most EF/ED people do when they go SOHC vtec in there car.
honestly I wouldn't bother with it unless you have a lot of free time on your hands to mess with it and work out the trouble shooting issues.
any other questions?
