I have a 1991 Honda CRX DX with a problem. When the car hasn't been used for a while (30 minutes minimum), it starts and runs fine. However, if the car warms up and is turned off, and you attempt to restart- it is very difficult. All kinds of weird cranking intervals and incantations are needed to get it running. When it starts running, a whole new set of problems arise- the engine won't rev past 3500rpm, it seems to have about 10 hp total, it uses tons of fuel, and it runs hot (temp gauge goes a bit above its normal perch), and it throws a code 8 (TDC sensor). I changed distributors but that didn't fix anything. Essentially it seems that a "choke" switch is stuck on. I've been able to get it out of this "mode" by downshifting to get the revs above 3500rpm.

Any ideas?

That's really wierd man! I have no ideas...but I'm definitly interested in hearing some from others. This post should get it back on top again.

 

Hey does this sound familiar to any Honda Tech's out there? : )
you need to check your "Main Relay" when the car is acting up..
It is located underneath the dash on the far drivers side, its a little black box that will have a 8 ( i think, no more than 8) pin connector..
If the car acts up, tap on the relay...don't beat on it...just tap it to see if it clears up the problem..
Main relay supplys signal to the fuel pump, injectors and ecu and we replace these all day long when the weather gets hotter...
