I fried my ecu.. AGAIN!
I have this ecu that i fried from several months ago by plugging it in and out while the battery terminals were still attached. The engine wouldn't crank after that. So I went and bought a new ecu and the car started right up. Well, i've been running for 3 months now but the idle was very bad and it stalls when I cruise to a stop. I thought the ecu had something to do with that. I decided to give my old ecu another try. Just to test it out. It is definately bad.. no start. Then I put my new ecu back in and it f#@kn won't start now either! I made sure to disconnect the battery terminals each time i do anything with the ecu too. When I connected the positive terminal then the negative terminal I can here some clicking noise coming from the ecu. The engine won't even start when I turn the key.
I know that if i go buy another ecu it will work. But i'm scared of installing it now that i've already fried 2 ecu's. What's the absolute correct way to install the ecu and is there any place that I can get my 2 fried ecu's fixed?

ok my question is, when you cut power to the ECM, how long can it sit before the codes from the T5 keys get erased? Maybe that or the surge when you pulled it back in erased the T5 memory, and your keys need to be re-programmed?
i didn't take too long doing the swap. it was just disconnnect the battery, unhook the ecu, hook up the other ecu, connect the battery, turned the key.. no delays. besides, when i turned the key there was no indication that the immobilizer was locking me out (no flashing). i expect that to be ok.
the ecu is definately fried.
the ecu is definately fried.
I take that back. the ecu is not fried, i repeat the ecu is not fried.. thank god and
what i found was the connector that goes to the clutch pedal was loose. i had problem starting with this connector before. it was the only other thing besides a dead ecu that was keeping me from starting the engine. i still have one dead ecu that still needs fixing though.
thanks for looking.
