Default bsq's diy icebox

I really have to use the term "diy" loosely because I bought the kit from bsq instead of making my own.

I'm still on the white, stock filter because the K&N filter is still in transit. I noticed a funny/burning smell after I installed this, maybe it's from the bust since I haven't used it for 4 months or so.

human body parts are the least accurate form of measurement tools and it sounds stock

btw I think I found the problem to the smell: I left my coolant reservoir on the header and it melted, god what an idiot.

Looks good. I'm sure it'll produce similar numbers to any CAI. I wouldn't like it sounding like stock though. The growl of my AEM ownz me.

Looks nice and clean, stock look

One question, how does that mount to the bottom of the stock box?

I had a hell of a time trying to find thin walled PVC and PVC elbows. They didn't sell it at any home improvement stores around here (Home Depot, Menards, Etc.). I couldn't even find it at plumbing stores or distributors because by code, plumbing pipes need to be schedule 40 (1/4" thick). Anyways, I finally found some thin walled PVC pipe (straight), but it wouldn't fit tightly into the schedule 40 elbows......then I found out that irrigation systems somethimes use thin walled PVC, so I got lucky and found an irrigation specilist place near me and they had some schedule 35 PVC elbows....although they do not fit perfectly, they were much better than the ones from the Depot (slightly thinner). Then I used some plumbers putty to secure the fittings together (that stuff is like cement). I think the 1/8" PVC is called schedule 200 if I am not mistaken......it is available in other sizes, but not 3" diameter - at least around here. If you need more info, PM me......I might even have some extra PVC lying around (straight), but I am not sure. Hope that helps a little........good luck.

home depot here has it, along with most other home improvement stores. It is not going to be right next to anything PVC. The thin walled stuff is for irrigation and drainage, look in that area usually by all the black plumbing stuff. The only problem I saw was its only being sold in 8' or 10' lengths.

I don't have a dyno to prove it, but IMO I haven't lost any. It is the same set up as BSQ's........ask him.......or anyone else running this type of DIY....

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">someone should definetly dyno</TD></TR></TABLE>

The only dyno I have seen is against a ITR intake...this dyno showed some decrease in power with the DIY. However, the ITR intake is quite a bit different than the OEM intake and resonator setup that I took off my GS, and there are countless was to make, and mess up, a DIY. I have no idea what kind of setup the DIY in the dyno was. I think that BSQ's is pretty straight forward, simple, and would work the best.

Before you engineering types get your briefs all messed up and start to educate us all on the dynamics and air flow characteristics, lets keep this in perspective........this DIY mod cost about $20 (filter not included), which is substantially less than the real deal (Comptech Icebox). Further, as discussed to death on this board and others, an intake alone will do next to nothing (a few hp) at best, so in the whole scheme of things, the DIY version is a better deal for the majority of people, many of whom are not concerned about trying to muster EVERY ounce of power that we can. I am not knocking those of you who are into that, just saying that many are not........if you are, this probably isn't the type of setup you want to run - plain an simple. Spend the extra $150 to $200 and get those extra ponies.......
