Default Anyone done head work on ZC?

I was thinking of getting the head milled for higher compression....anyone done this on ZC before? How much did you take off? What was your new comp ratio? What octane gas did you need? Did you use the stock ECU or get it chipped? Was it worth it? Thanks.

one thing you might need if you shave the head alot is adjustable cam gears. i'm not 100% sure you'll need them as i might be confusing the need for them with some other project...

have milled head .030" on the DOHC ZC - raises compression ratio to about 10.2:1 - without adjustable cam gears, the cams are retarded about 1 degree - still runs o.k. without changing type of gasoline - with cams retarded, the ignition timing is affected since the distributor turns with the cam - you will barely be able to get 16 degrees advance with the distributor all the way to the end of the slots - if you do it, get the adjustable cam gears.

get the cam gears- you can get them from takakaira, and they are supposed to be nice. Your only other optinon that I am aware of would be to ghettofab some b series gears to work. HTH

How much of an increase did you notice if any? If you had an incerase was it at the top end, bottom, or throughout the RPM range? Also, what is a good price to pay for a good milling job? Thanks!

they will bolt up, so that's not ghettofab, it's just that the marks are slightly off, so IMO using them to adjust timing is ghettofab- but it does work. I'd just prefer the right part for the job ya know?

You are correct sir, the A1 cam gears are much bigger than the ZC gears. Now i haven't had a ZC head milled but a ZC responds very well to porting and polishing. I did a self porting job on my first ZC, basically gasket matched the intake and exhaust, smoothed out the intake side but not full polish, that's actually bad for flow, but i'm not gonna get into that. Anyway, there was a much notable difference even in my ghetto fab self porting. Actually it wasn't that ghetto, i took pretty precise measurements and it turned out great. This time aroung DH racing is performing the magic.

We seem to have gotten off topic a bit, although cam gears was something I didn't think about....so.....other then that guy with 10.2:1 is there anyone else here who has done this? If so please enlighten us
