Default How many guys fabricated there own headers.

When building a header for a bseries motor, what do you guys feel is the best size for the primary. Like for exampe i am working on a header right now that has 2inch primaries and it just looks massive. I only have a couple headers under my belt, but i cant wait to try them on the dyno. Do you fabricators want to share any info.

I'm down for a dyno run. The next one i make will be a somewhat copy of your header. I have a better merge collector design in mind also.

I got my own merge collector design and i want to mess with different diameters and lengths. I just really like how on the 4-2-1 the way you ran everything under the oilpan. My 4-1 is likely to pick up small animals under the car, So i will probably next week put togather a 4-2-1. Then off to the dyno and see how much i jacked up the exhaust flow.

Have you ever seen one of Dave's headers in person? ******* work of art...If you can even get your fabrication to that quality level, you are doing ok. The Merge Collectors are the nicest I've seen EVER, period...SMS will be the only Header I ever use in any personal all-motor buildup and any customer who wants the best.

I've seen some really really nice work from SMSP, and i've also seen nice work from HyTech, and my current header (headertech) is really nice looking as well. But honestly, if you want a bad-*** header, figure out how big you want your piping to be, what style collector, what style header, and go to a chopper fabricator, and tell him what you want for 300 labor and 200 material you can have an outrageous header, and I can guarantee you that most guys that do bike exhausts are artists with metal, not fabricators. Get the whole header jet-hot chromed, and you have a bad-*** header.

No need to spend 700-1400 on a custom header.
Also you can make them with adjustable primaties, secondaries, get different collectors and what not, and try them all out on the dyno.

Yup, i touched one too.

I am working on it, i will be investing some money on some better equipment pretty soon. With my store becomeing automated pretty soon, i will have more time to play.

I totaly agree but i have worked at a couple shops and now i have my own, lot of customers are not going to spend the money for that 700-1400 header. My plan is to make a low budget header that makes the numbers. I will be hitting the dyno in several weeks. I would be glad if you came along.
