Default Turbo My Hatch or My CRX??? READ

I have both a 89 CRX Si and a 90 Civic DX Hatch.

The CRX has a CTR built B16 in it now. It has a pretty nice red paint job and a WW body kit. Definintly never going to be a sleeper again. I have a fairly built suspenion on the car also. I have done quite a bit of weight savings to the car and now it features removed bumpers, heat, and ac, wipers, and several interior parts.

My Civic is all stock except soon it will be painted Suzuka blue and have a JDM frontend, tails, and rear spoiler.

I am planning on building a street/drag race car out of one of the vehicles. Which ever one gets the nod for the turbo motor will get a 2liter vtec with a inline pro 60-1 trim t4 good for about 550 horse. The other car will be a AutoX beast and get a 2liter all motor with CTR cams, IE the head from the CRX motor right now.

Because of mods allready done the CRX will be driven much less, no heat. Should I put the turbo motor in the hatch and make it the sleeper from hell, and turn the boost down for everyday commuting? Or put the Turbo motor in the CRX and leave the NA setup for the Civic? If the CRX gets the NA motor it will be built bigger with higher comp. pistons like 13.5:1 for a beastly NA setup. If in the Civic kept to 10:1 for daily driving on pump gas.

I really can't decide. I'm not playing, this will happen soon. Reliability is one of the biggest questions, I've never owned a hgh horsepower turbo car. My civic will be painted soon and I can't decide. It may take me a year to complete the turbo car but I allready have most of the big stuff, motors trannys, mounts for both cars ect. All I need is a stand alone, turbo, sleaves, internals, FMIC, ect.

Thanks Guys.

not going to vote in this one. You might want to check out SCCA rules for both the hatch and the crx. Withe the CRX and an engine swap you will be stuck in SM2 with only Dmod being above that class. I know that hatches have other classes they can run in with a swap. STX comes to mine. while the crx would make the better autoX car I'd leave the hatch alone and enter it in one of the lower classes and see if you like autoX then enter the crx in SM2 and have at it. just remember that in SM2 you will be up against high HP vettes and porsche's. A supercharged b16 in a crx would do well in SM2. goodluck

Yeah it is just a bit overkill. I am basicly shadowing everything off a Karl Jinxproof99's old car that he sold to inline pro, and matrixing it with a little bit of Jason Hunt's old setup. Jinx's was only a 1.8liter I want to go a step ahead and make it a little bit bigger. I do want to break into the high nines in high boost mode. I realize this will be hard and very expensive to achieve. Jinx ran a 10.40 in his EG and Jason I can't remember exactly but I beleive he was in the high nines. I don't want to cut the drag car up. No lexan, or 1pc front.

I figure if I shadow off of these guys the setup can't possibly be bad. The turbo is big and nasty but it worked for Jinx. Many people tell me not to go with this but it worked for him. I should spool sooner with my setup being a 2liter and displacing more cfm. I don't really care about street racing on the street if the turbo car sees much street action I will turn it down to like 350hp and keep it cool. I remember reading a kill stories post of Jinx taking out a modded Z06 on the street all the while under massive wheel spin till 120mph. If I can take out modded Z06's on street tires I will be extremely happy.

The SCCA class dosen't really matter I allready run E Mod so what do I have to lose? When It comes to Autox anyway I don't really care if I ever win I just love doing it. Then when I'm done I'll drive it to the grocery store.

Anyway is anybody going to vote? Basicly it comes down to Turbo sleeper or Turbo beast that obviously modded????

If you want drag & autox then make the crx the drag car & hatch should be optmized for a raod coarse. To me it just makes more sense.

You'll become one of those guys that sees a CRX while driving, saying "man, I loved my rex, i wish i still had it. That was such a fun little car" and that will majorly suck. Keep the rex, supercharge it, and compete in SM2 like the other guy was saying. Good class to compete in and you'll have a blast doing it.

Yeah, I say that now when I see nice first gen CRX's and it reminds me of my old silver beater. God I miss that car. My friend was telling me about NASA circuit racing any of you guys doing it? The classes sounded more competive and sounded like a pretty good series. I probally won't supercharge it though. At this point I beleive the CRX will be destined to be a Turbo Drag/Street car. I really like Jason Hunt's old CRX and would like to do something similar engine wise. The Hatch will probally just have a mild B20VTEC setup. That's what I'm leaning to at this time.

I say Bart that you but the B16 in the hatch and build a similar motor for the Rex except low compression with high redline. That would be a set of double D's yo

Man, I wish I had the money to have to decide which car to finish... IMO, build the hatch. Everyone, and I mean everyone has a CRX. I have the only hatch that is somewhat raced around here (cept for one in the works, but its a 98). And every weekend there are at least 5 CRX's out of maybe 20 some people. I own a 1G CRX, and I'm trying to sell the ho.
