cam broke!!! hahaha!!! pics and stuff!!!!
finished swap like 3 weeks ago-d16y8 into 93 cx. car was runnin pretty good. had 180 psi in all four cylinders. just 2 days ago it started throwing cel 9(no 1 cyl pos sensor), so itook out my dizzy and the shaft that rotates was loose, so i figure bearing was starting to go. so i ordered a new dizzy from Advanced. i got it today and took it to my friends shop so i could install it. upon installation i looked in the hole where the dizzy does into and i see that the cam was broken! so i took the cam out and .. well see for yourselves... how can this happen? how can i prevent it? anyone have a zex/crower/y8 cam laying around
?? thought not, but figured i'd try.. let me know what you think. enjoy..

That seems like an odd place for a cam to break! I can't believe it would break there, it seems like there'd be no stress there except to maybe turn the dist.?
i say hairline stress fracture from when it was shipped or just a factory flaw. How was it shippped to you? Like the kind of packaging. When i sent mine to be reground I was really paranoid so i put it in a 2.5'x2'x1.5' box and filled it with air pockets on the bottom, then newspaper half way up then bubble wrap around the camshaft then more paper to top it off. When i got it back it was in a pissy *** paper box 1 "x1 "x13 " just enough to have the camshaft covered as well as on sheet of magazine paper on both ends. Needless to say i was a little pissed, you pay tons of money to have this stuff done it should be damn near babied. Anyway the packaging could have something to do with why it broke. If the packaging sucked and the mail man decided to drop it and it hit the concret floor at an angle that'll weaken that right up. well anyway you get the point. I bet a machine shop could weld that back together for you and it'll be good as new, or maybe check out what delta camshafts has to offer, maybe they'll fix it for you. good luck.
Edit: HAha damn the cam wasn't shipped to you, ohh well. I have a y5 cam if you want that.
