Default cam broke-wtf? pics and stuff

finished swap like 3 weeks ago-d16y8 into 93 cx. car was runnin pretty good. had 180 psi in all four cylinders. just 2 days ago it started throwing cel 9(no 1 cyl pos sensor), so itook out my dizzy and the shaft that rotates was loose, so i figure bearing was starting to go. so i ordered a new dizzy from Advanced. i got it today and took it to my friends shop so i could install it. upon installation i looked in the hole where the dizzy does into and i see that the cam was broken! so i took the cam out and .. well see for yourselves... how can this happen? how can i prevent it? anyone have a zex/crower/y8 cam laying around ?? thought not, but figured i'd try.. let me know what you think. enjoy..

you need to remove the distributor when installing the camshaft to eliminate any chances of binding the slot on the camshaft against the distributor key.

Ok, I thought you put a after market cam in. Sorry.

The disty key is off set just a little. Making it posible for the disty to only go in one way. I was thinking that you put a cam in with the disty still on the motor. I thought maybe the cam was 180 off the disty and you didn't notice and bolted the cam down.

That sucks. Couldn't tell you what happend. Weak cam? Was the motor shipped anywhere? If it was, was the disty cap broke when you got it? Maybe it was dropped or ran into.

Lemme ask you a question. does the distributer still turn? sometime the bearing in the distributer will seize. also see if you a gang load of small gauge wire wound up in the distributer. usually when i see that it is because of bearing in the distributer fails

not sure how the timiing belt would cause that since it's clear on the other side of the cam..

I've seen this before... with toda's no less... Have not figured out what is happening as yet, not even a theory... unless the dist. friction is high due to bearing seizure or semi seizure...

well that's what i figure. cuz my dizzy wasn't spinning that freely when i took it out to replace it. i took it out cuz it was getting code 9(no 1 cyl pos sensor). so i guess that is where my prob was..
