Need a diagnosis (engine burning oil)
89 d15 with ~229 000 km
I've done compression: 210 208 198 210 which didnt really coincide with the ammount of oil burn I'm getting. So I did a leakdown test and got 10% 13% 15% 13%. All the cylenders seem to leak into the oil pan from the sound of it.
I'm pretty sure my rings are toast...but I'm having trouble seeing how the compression could be so good.
Also, I need help picking:
This is gooing to be my winter car so I have the following options:
Rebuild motor, new rings, new head gasket, new timing belt, new water pump
Or
Rebuild a d16a6 I have in teh garage...I've never run it....got it from some guy....no idea what shape its in....it has cylenders 1,2 have 25 psi compression, so it seems to be a bad head gasket.
The big decision point is that my car has to pass emissions test before I can run it. So using a d16 wiht more HP, but unknown condition could be risky.
Thanks.

when u did the compression test was it when the engine was cold? or hot? if it was cold this could explain it. once the rings get hot when they are going out they stop holding as much compression.
You may want to buy a single cam motror from Hmotors. It will be chaper than rebuilding a motor, and they have few miles on them. I was considering rebuilding one of my D16s but after I did some calculations, I decided to just buy a longblock.
