TUTORIAL - Resizing HUGE PICTURES. Hoping for a sticky from the mods.
Annoyance - Having to wait 2-3 mins on broadband to load everyone's huge *** 10x10 inch pictures.
Goal - Resize those gargantuan pics so that ALL USERS won't have to load up a MEG's worth of pictures.
Tool to be used - Irfan View
First, this is meant to be a tutorial so:
1) webspace won't be wasted by uploading overly large pictures
2) 56k users can view threads
3) loading pictures will be sped up.
Enough talking, download Irfan View ( http://www.irfanview.com/ ).
Set it up, just fly through the install, don't change any options.
Load up the program, click File, Batch Conversion/Rename.
In the window, search for the pictures off your camera/scanner.
Select them, and click "Add"
Under Batch conversion settings on the bottom right, click "Use advanced options" and click the button that unghosts.
Click the Unchecked "resize" box.
Click the "Set new size as % of original" button.
For 2 megapixel cameras, 50% is a nice size. Anything larger than 2 m.p., the value should be greater than 50%
Hit "OK"
Now under "Output Directory" choose a folder or create a new folder. This is where all the new smaller files will be sent.
Now on the top right, click "START".
BAM, everything's finished. Look in the output directory for the smaller files. Files that were once over 700k are now under 100k. And the only thing that changes is that you don't have to scroll down twenty times to view a single image.

small pictures are worthless and **** me off
dont bother resizing them, i save anything good to my harddrive and it auto sizes everything to fit on-screen

Whoever said the pictures would be small.
For example:
This pic was taken with a 2 megapixel camera. It was about 2x as large, and about 700k in size. It's now under 100.
But, if that's small to you, you're either running too high of a resolution or you need glasses, pops.

If the pictures are big yet look good then I dont mind..
My monitor resolution is set at 1280x1024 so big pictures look fine and small pictures are too small. Nice try though..
I think I'll continue to post my huge *** pictures

Photoshop 7.0=god of resizing pics.
Plus it gives you the option of quality you want to save the resized pic as so you can control the size of the image.
