Just get your tuning dialed. Do you have a a air fuel meter? How bout injectors? How bout springs and retainers? ecu? plan on revving to 9?

12.5:1 is pretty damn high for pump gas. You're gonna need a ecu with fat tuning and run bigger injectors so you don't detonate.

Easily. I don't think you'll need bigger injectors. Just get an ECU program that runs enough fuel.

I would go with a power FC may cost more but you will probably buy it later down the road anyways so might as well go ahead and get it.

My Dad always use to say do it right the first time or never do it at all. Because you end up spending more money if you just did it right the first time.

If you are gonna be running compression that high why not just get the spec B's.

BTW what pistons are you utilizing.

ctr's... i like the spec a's better... they're almost stock specs.. no problems with idling or not that much wear on the valvetrain.

IMHO that is too much compression on the street for a daily driver.. i wouldn't go over 11.5:1

No you won't, The J&S monitors for detonation and automatically retards timing either for all 4 cylinders or individually
12.2 compression on the street is fine, ask steve he is running the CTR pistons and using 92 octane gas, I'm running 12.4:1 and its a daily driver

Flex97ITR, I TOTALLY agree with you. The A's are much better for the street than the B's in my opinion. Awesome midrange and nice peak power around 8200 or so. Combine that with the compression and a nice, close ratio tranny and you're in there. Money.

Purchasing a pwer FC eliminates the need for a VAFC..right? or "no dummy!"

That is correct. Power FC controls VTEC, rev limiter, fuel timing idle and a million other things.

Everyone will see very soon as this project is being finished up very soon (next monday) I will have tons of pics, specs, parts lists, dyno sheets etc. I'm not much of a Drag racer (cars setup more for Road racing but I will go to the strip a few times)

How does it retard timing on an individual cylinder? Actually, how does the J+S work period? I know that it retards timing in case of detonation, but would an Apex timing controller do the same thing?

James,
I couldn't tell you exactly how the J&S makes the retard happen(though in the wiring it inturupts the wire that tells he ignition to fire the spark) The A'PEXi unit allows you to make changes to the timing, the J&S is a device that reacts to knock and detonation quicker and at a more controlled level than the stock ECU. The newer versions allow you to program in a vaccuum advance on NA cars, and a retard feature similar to the MSD BTM(I think that's what it's called), but a little more advanced.
