Default One touch window switch

On my list of stupid minor things to mod on my car, one of the stupidest things thats always bothered me is there is no "one-touch" down switch for the passenger side switch. Can I just swap in a driver side "one-touch" switch for the passenger side or would I need the door/window computer to do this?

i believe this method uses a rely. I'd also like this as well.

The stock one for the driver's side is mechanical.

That's what I was thinking would be the easiest. Just a mechanical switch that would be the equivalent of keeping pressure on the switch. One touch up would be nice too but thats probably a whole lot complicated.

Whos good at wiring? Would another driver side switch work in this manner?

Do your switches look the same or are they different than OEM? Can we have some pics?

Most cars don't have auto-up, because of federal law(Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard FMVSS118, section 5). If windows close automatically(sunroofs too), they are supposed to detect obstacles(like your hand) and not crush them, but back up.

They are coming soon to cars near you!

I'm an electronics designer for a Tier 1 in detroit, I design the electronics for Power Window and Sunroof systems to allow for 1 touch closing. Also lets you close all your windows at once from your Key-fob. Very cool.

As usual, the USDM gets screwed. Already very popular feature in Europe and Japan, but over here, we have too many Idiots with Trial Lawyers...

Man, I thought I was the only one...... I would love to have this feature, however dumb it may sound.

Man I wanted to do that to. Didn't know so many people wanted to too. Well I got a DX Hatch, so I just need to work on getting power windows period. hahaha But might as well just get the two at once. Someone figure this out.

That WOULD be true, except that it's not.

My wife's Passat has auto up and down for both front windows. Also one-turn open and close for the moonroof.

YEah, like I posted, European vehicle soften have the feature.

But, its still cost added to cars. In a standard powre window switch, you have a switch and some relays, with Anti-Pinch requirements, you have a microcontroller, software, tons of calibration work.. its a lot more work that it seems to meet the government regulations.

Sad fact is it all costs money. Right now, the automakers are bleeding, and trying to cut cost anywhere they can. If they save $20 by not including it, then a manager gets a bigger bonus. Hell, I am the electronics designer for these windowlift systems, and if I can find a way to save 1 cent from my design, I am having a good day.

righto.. my madre's 1.8T has the same as the passat you're describing- with no sensor to make sure little billy's head isn't sticking out the window.

so much for redlinegsr's safety regs?

Default Some vehicles have the one touch window switch (haggar)

The range rover 4.6 HSE has the one touch window up switch. It has a sensor that detects if an object is in the way via a sensor of some sort and goes down. The dealer showed this to us as part of the advanced saftery features of the SUV....

Soccer moms now have a similar feature for those auto sliding door in minivans, but they use touch sensors so fingers and bones dont get crushed

2 common ways its done:

1) current sensing: As Little Billy's head gets crushed, it requires more current to drive the window up. The electronics sense the increase in current, and back up

2) Speed sensing: As Billy gets crushed, the speed of the motor starts slowing down. You sense that, and back up.

Some of the first systesm out there, liek some of the VW stuff, don't have the safety regs, or at least very sensitive ones. The new rules going into effect are really tough to meet, which is slowing down the installation rates.

Stupid FMVSS laws are why lots of things that people like aren't around.

Remote Car starters are illegal in many states, so are video screens visible by the driver(except, for some reason, GPS navigation systems are ok..).

I know my parents have a 2002 Mercedes E-class, and a 2002 toyota higlander, both have auto-close for the windows and the sunroof.

Of course, its not the sunroof *I* designed, therefore its crap!!
