I really need to get them to switch me to STS from STN... once again the only car to beat me was an M3, and only by a second. Typically it's either that guy or a guy with this hooked up WRX. IIRC both are running Azenis and I'm using goodyear eagle F1 GS-D3's on stock rims and suspension. I really need to get 17's....
Anyhow, went pretty well, and for stock size those goodyears seems do to really well. Hopefully I can claim the class by the end of the season and get a prelude to the top of the local group's STN class!

why? wouldn't lightweight 15x7 wheels with some sticky 225/50/15 tires be better and lighter?

Same thing I did.. ran an 82.236, but because of the 1 cone that knocked it to 84.236... I would have had the M3. Oh well, crap happens lol.
And the only problem with going with a 15 and a low pro is the 225/50/15
would give me even more sidewall area than I have now. I tried some 215 or was that 225.. forget now, but I think it was 215/40R17's and I could feel the difference even with the Kumho 711's on the 17 inch rim. A 225/45R15 would give me the same amount but would reduce my gear ratio and i'm already just topping out 2nd before the turns... shifting to 3rd would hurt bad

haha awsome! I guess the M3 was mis-classed or pulled out because on the results page I'm listed as the top dawg in STN! SWEET!

Unless the 17's are light, I wouldn't reccomend them. Also keep in mind you are going to be using up tires alot quicker if you autox regularly.
i would run 215/45/16 Azenis, on your stock wheels....or preferbly something lighter.

Even more preferably - WIDER than the stock wheels. I run the 215/45/16 Azenis on 16x7.5 K-1s in STS.

me too excepts on Rota slips ever since I put that combo I've podium (1st-3rd) 4 out of 5 events. And that's with an avg of 25+ STS drivers at each event.

There was someone on here looking to sell a set of 17" sub-zero's (with kumho's... but that'd be fixed)... anyone remember the screen name?

amen..
Here are some pics of my 16x7 Grids...you can tell there is some width to spare.

how do you think the stock 16's would do with the above mentioned size Azenis (215/45/R16) Found them for $89 so far.
I might get new rims by next season, I'm starting to figure out what I'm going to get this fall. Already have the bushings sitting in my room with the upgraded sway bar bushings on. Also going to shoot for a set of springs/coil overs with a slightly higher rate

They will fit the 6.5" wide stock wheels just fine. But again, wider is better. One rule of thumb that I've always heard tossed around is that, assuming the same size tires, for every 0.5" of wheel width, you gain about .25" of tire contact patch width. So if you go from a 6.5" wide wheel with a 215/45/16 tire to a 7.5" wide wheel with the same 215/45/16 tire, you gain about 0.5" of contact patch width per corner. This may not sound like much, but it can be a significant advantage. Our cars are not featherweights, and we want to try to get much tire as we possibly can to help compensate.

Looks like my car, except my wheels are flat black, oh yea, and it's not running because ups lost the head I bought.
