Default Friend passed away on Saturday... Racing :(.

Well,

Thought I'd share this story.. I know it humbled me.

Until this happens to you, you will probably never take it serious or to the heart like I just did today. I street race. Often. I try to be careful about it, do it late at night, early in the morning, roads with few cars or people, etc - almost as if to validate it. I often read stories on H-T, see on T.V about kids dying street racing and the such.. and until today shrugged it off as those specific people not knowing what they're doing.

Saturday night a friend of mine died racing on I-75. He just got his turbo kit freshly installed on his G2 LS and he was out flooring it all over the place. I wasn't there, but many of our friends were there and saw it happen. He was flooring it on I-75, took his attention off the road for a split second when he saw himself just about ready to hit the car infront of him that was braking. He swirlved... So hard that his car landed in a ditch and proceeded to flip many times... His body was found 60 ft away from the car. He was basically naked because all his clothes were ripped from sliding on the grass... He died on the scene. His passenger from my understanding is looking at a broken back...

I saw this kid just 3 days ago and he gave me a card to go get my wing painted at where he got his whole car done. The MOMO shifter in my car which belongs to another friend of mine was just IN his car a week ago before it was taken back... I gave him an extra GSR rim I had a month ago so he can roll with GSR blades in the front.....

Now he is gone..

at 20 ..

I can't even imagine the pain his parents feel.....

This will truly be the experience in my life I can say will keep me away from doing stupid **** on the street. I hope every1 else out there will not have to go through such a tragic story with somebody close to you to do the same...

R.I.P JC..

I thought about death today when I woke up. I thought to myself, "one night, I could fall asleep and not wake up" Kind of wigged me out for a bit.

Live and learn, ya know?

I used to street race. Hell I think everyone here does or at least did in one point. I took me 3 months to stop. To the point where I had to hand my keys over to my friend, when someone asked to race me. I even had to stop driving, and let him drive, just so I wouldn't get the urge to race. It was like Rehab for str33t racing, I guess. But it worked.

I haven't raced in months. Whenever I get challenged. I kinda blow it off. Usualy it's just a single slammer civic, though. Nothing too major.

I find it more self gratifying to have overcome such a desire to street race, than to beat some stunna in momma's accord.

Really? Who or what is to say what is mean or out of line? I have not been posting on this board for a very long time, but I have gotten some great information from it. I find it interesting when people like you wish to inhibit the free speech that is entitled to all, whereever it may be.

I think that the passing away of a fellow human being is tragic and I am sorry for the fellow that died. I'm also deeply concerned about import enthusiasts who bolt on mass amounts of horsepower and proceed not only to endanger their own health/safety but ESPECIALLY innocent bystanders. That scares me when people operate a motor vehicle that don't really understand the power that's available to them and what consequences occur when you don't properly understand how to use that power. Unfortunately, sometimes, it ends in death.

Yes, it's too bad that a person died, but it's also good that NO ONE else was injured, killed or maimed. Put in in perspective, if you wanna race, learn how to drive with the horsepower and torque that's available to you and more importantly, take it somewhere where people aren't in peril.

Now, if you think that's mean or stupid, I'd hate to drive where you live.

Peace out and drive safely to everyone

Sucks man, but I have to ask was he wearing his seatbelt? Do you know if he usually wore it or usually did not? I was deeply saddened when I heard about Andrea Vaudrin's death, but it made me kinda mad that she wasn't wearing her seatbelt and would probably still be alive if she had done so.

Wear your seatbelt!!! if you don't.

Death is not cool at all, its the worst part of life. When it happens to ones that are close its terrible, I feel for you and everyone affected by the lost, you have my best.

Real sorry to hear that. My condolences go out to you and his family. It goes to show how deadly this hobby can be when you don't respect its potential. Hopefully this post can make everyone pause and think about the things they do in their cars and prevent themselves from making the same mistake that he did. RIP

I agree with hitop. Many people here talk about moding their cars for more HP. ls/vtec, engine swaps and whatnot. I'm just as guilty as the next guy doing the bolt ons. To some degree, I admire those who have skills and know-how to turbo their cars..

Reading the accounts of your friend really hits home as we were all there, or know people in their early twenties.

The thing that is rarely emphasized is the actual joys of driving, handling, corning, as such. Slamming, boosting, wingless, swap, rice and all that jazz means nothing with you see one of your own fallen.

There's more to owning a car than just driving fast. We all hate to see another out of production teg wrecked, but dread the loss of a teg driver even more.

Haters can comment all they want, as they always feel the need to. But you all know i speak the truth.

Peace

Really sorry to hear that man, I send my condolences to you and his family. I felt sick to my stomach readiny your post. I am sure going to tone it down now. I felt the same way as geminigsr about hearing stories like this and then just shrugging it off, that ain't gonna happen now.
