Default Why Do You Want to Retard Timing at Top End?

I've read a few things from places even on my msd ignition thing and it says that it's best to retard your iginition timing for top end performance weatehr it be FI or N/A or juiced car. So.. why is it better to retard timnig at top end? and does top end performance refer to as high revs or top end meaning high speed.

since the engine is reving so high, the engine doesnt need the initial timing advance it needs for the lower rpms, and also,if the timing was advanced, youd be actuallyslowing down your engine because it would have to work against the early ignited combustion. If you have a timing gun and you were to rev your engine ,youll notice as the rpms get higher, the timing will get close to tdc.
