"maintenance required"
my maintenance required light came on for my 60-70k mile service. i looked in the manuel and i can do everything myself except inspect valve clearence, or something like that. and check timing belts, i could do this if i really wanted too. anyway i called my honda mechanic and he told me the tune-up/service would cost $357, does that sound like a decent price. all help encouraged and appreciated, thanks.
i say you do it all yourself, and have the honda friend of yours help you with what you are not familiar with. Remember, this site is about technical help, which is used on a daily basis on our own risk.

The valve lash is not that hard to adjust all you have to do is a get a set of feeler gauges rotate the crankshaft until the lobe of the cam is on top and then just adjust them to the specifications e.g. .017. The belt is not that bad its just in there kinda of tight, take your time and if you have an extra set of hands that will help out immensely because the intake cam seems to want to jump a tooth sometimes (you can prevent this by getting some bolts i beleive they are 5 or 6mm bolts and you can move the cams in to there TDC position and then put the bolts in the retainer holes so they don't move)
good luck you have a good boad to provide any technical info that you may need .

What year is your car? Maintenance cell lights only come up with any sensor fault in your emission control devices. Regular oil changes, valve adjustment needed are not the cause.

the maintenance required light is the light on the bottom middle of the gauge cluster. it is green most of the time and when it reaches the correct mileage for each scheduled service the light first turns orange then red once it is overdue. if you look in your owners manuel you will see the explanation and the milage and description of each tune-up.

Didn't catch your username
Okay now it make sense...I thought you were talking about the engine cel light.
yeah, just get a full tune-up and reset the light.
