cold air intake system or the drop in filter from Spoon?
get a CAI...w/ the drop in filter your still using the restrictive design of the oem setup but with a higher flowing filter...if you wanna change the filter just get a K&N for 1/2 of the price of a Spoon filter....
you have to really think though..although spoon DOES have a product to sell.. this is the same system used on their track DC5..its hard to argue with results. If the fastest integra (DC5)'s in the world don't use a CAI and simply use either a revised filter or different airbox (mugen), then thats good enough for me.
If you do decide to use the Spoon filter, you should think about cutting out your airbox also. http://www.hondata.com has instructions on what to cut inside along with a dyno sheet.
just because it says Spoon on it doesnt mean its always the best....just think about it..all it is is a higher flowing filter covered w/ oil....the design of the OEM filter will still limit its gains versus a true CAI or even a SRI....also I dont think Spoon has the fastest DC5..I think Toda or Hytech is the companies you should be looking at for the fastest track NA DC5.....Spoon is mainly a track orientated company which is why they dont release too many engine parts for cars which explains why they havent had a set of internals(cams, manifolds) out for the DC5 yet....i think all they have is a throttle body out?
If I were Spoon and I were selling air filters at $140 a pop, I'd say the same. And I sure as heck would put it on my race cars if it convinces people to buy 'em.
If thats your logic, there are a LOT of other race teams out there that DON'T use a drop in filter design either.

im not saying just cuz its spoon its the best of course..im saying, that it must work well for their set up, because i think they did pretty well in the one make series...and i guess you havent checked the new products released, theres everything pretty much available now..including the spoon k20a racing ecu. I must say..at our shop..i just hate when an rsx, civic si, or new celica gts pulls in and wants a cai... its a pain to do! haha...

Remember that they are limited by prep rules. They may be *forced* to use the oem airbox, which is the case in many classes over in JDM land.

Do you know why the Spoon cars use drop in filters? Because the class's that they are in REQUIRE them to run the factory intake. You drop in a filter and then switch to a CAI and dyno. Tell me which one you'd take.
If you plan on running Group N races at Gymkahna cool. If not there's really no other reason to buy spoon parts IMHO. There are much better counterparts. You have to understand Spoon makes parts based on the maximum the limits allow. Not for all out performance.
