a boosted H22 oil pump failure
I heard that stock oil pumps can cuase problems on turbo Preludes. I read this at http://www.prodriveusa.com/faq.html. Does anyone know about this problem or have any experiences. I'm boosting my H22A and my goal is 300HP, so I need to know if my oil pump is really gonna be a problem
nope. just the gears. and from all the techs that i've actually talked to, the ProDrive ones actually fail just as often, if not more so than the ones that Honda has blessed us with. just what they've told me.
From my friends experience, his oil pump kept failing at the track when he went turbo on his h22. He had an aftermarket crank pulley and replaced it back to his OEM crank pulley, and hasnt had a problem since.
supposedly the stock gear is made from some crappy compressed metal that would break from a 6 foot drop. the prodrive one is supposed to be much stronger.
i have one for piece of mind. also have a oil pressure gage in an easy place to keep an eye on it.

Aftermarket crank pullies are the only thing I've heard about re: oil pump failure on any honda motor...

YES ! Stock OEM oil pumps can and do break under higher WHP cars. 450 WHP give or take turbo motors and roughly 260 WHP give or take N/A motors. Aftermarket and/or out of balance stock crank pulley's are your worse enemy.
300 whp turbo Ehh depends how well the motor is put together. If it's stock with a decent amount of milage on it, It would be up to you. I personally run the endyn oil pumps I know NAH2B likes the prodrive sets both have good results. IMO better safe then sorry. So consider the downside to what "could" happen in case of failure then ask yourself is the upgraded oil pump/gears worth it or not.
Just my .02 cents

I am all with md23vtec a oil pump gear is one of the best things to upgrade. circuit worx makes a really good oil pump gear for the lude and its about $225 but well worth it. cuz just think if that gear goes out when your driven its going to send metal shavings to every part of your engine so in other words its a bad day if that happens. if you already spent the money to get the turbo do this just so you dont wast any of the money you spent on your engine.
I have the circuit worx"prodrive" in my H22 thats making 470whp, then there is one person I know in Seattle thats making over 600whp in a 4 door accord and is running the OEM one. So which one is better?
