Yes, Last night some as*hole cop decided to give everyone in the gas station with a aftermaket exhaust system a ticket for $46. When asked why he said
"It creates more sound than that of when it was stock"
He the showed me a photocopied law which states that the exhaust may not be modified if it is going to create more sound. Yes he gave them to domestics as well.
This happened at a race trac on Gandy In St.Pete (Tampa),
Do I have a chance to get it overruled or not,
And since when has it been an issue in FL?

I know PLENTY of people running open downpipe, no cats, 60-1 street cars, etc etc.

Dont be a ***** and dont pay it....
I would fight it. I'd go to court and questions the hell out of the cop. Ask him what does after market mean? Aftermarket means that the particular accessory was not made by the manufacturer. Ask him if you bought a replacement muffler from a Local Shop. Which would be aftermarket. And if it was 1 dB louder, would he give you a ticket? Ask him if everybody that drives a Acura are obligated by law to buy their exhuast's from the dealer which is over $500 for the whole system vs $100 from Joey the mechanic?
I learned a long time ago, dont let the law push you around. Because all it does is cause them to do it more and to more innocent people. **** the Police!!!!

I suggest you pay the ticket and replace the exhaust with one that is not illegally loud. In fact, they may be willing to just drop the ticket if you show them that you replaced the exhaust. The law was written to protect the public from excessively loud vehicles. If you dont like the law, move or vote for politicians that support your views.

Read your RCW. It should say something about how loud it can't be (92dB in my state I believe) and also look for anything that says "unless certified by a mechanic, blah blah". They can't just give you a ticket because it looks "modified". What if you had a bad muffler and got a 50-state legal catback.
I'd fight it...that's one of the dumbest ticket I always get dropped including having license plate in the front. Some cops really need to know their laws.

I agree with everyone, but was just surprised that I got a ticket for it, I probably won't bother to fight it as it is louder, I suppose I could put a stock one on and then see what would happen.
Apparently there were many MANY people that got exhaust tickets last nite besides you, one of my friends did also. Honestly, its only 46 bucks, either throw ur stock one back on or just pay the fine.
we have several friends up north here too, that are dealign with this:
hell we got a ticket for illegal start: he took off but never went over speed limit:
there are some laws there that suggest sound levels:
you just normally dont see them, but with all the increase awareness, i am sure it will get worst

Soon you won't be able to put rims on its getting so stupid. I am not sure if these cops are on a power trip or what, 'to serve and protect', yeah my ***.
Don't get me wrong there are some decent cops out there , but its getting lower.

Did this cop actually hear your exhausts? How does he know they are loud? I would be pissed if I had something like a Mugen twin loop or an Apexi WS and still get a ticket for having a loud exhaust.
I don't know if fighting this one is even worth it. $46 is really nothing if it means you'll have to take off from work or school to go to court.

It's not power tripping, its a money generating activity, with a little prejudice thrown into the mix in most cases. I've been pulled over for a loud exhaust and also once for a missing front plate. I have tons of friends with modified non Japanese import cars(Audi S4, Audi A4, Golf GTI, Mustang GT, BMW M3, Plymouth Roadrunners, Dodge SuperBee, etc...) and they NEVER complain about getting tickets for stupid stuff like a missing front plate or an exhaust that is too loud. The stupid ricers, car thefts, street racing, etc.. are why cops hate imports.

Show me where there's a race track on Gandy. Gandy is a public highway, not a place to race. You got a ticket BECAUSE you were out there during/watching the illegal street races... you wouldn't get it anywhere else. They look for things to bother people for because they don't think you should be out there racing/watching... and you really shouldn't.

1.Well the Race Trac is the Gas Station if you read the origonal post-
2.People don't actually Race on Gandy, they go off somewhere else, people just meet there.
3.The cop didn't hear my exhaust.
4.What if I had a silencer?
