if you just want to have fun, do whatever mods you like. If you wnat to learn how to drive well, then leave it stock.

I'm an auto-x newb and the stock suspension has done me VERY well in STX. Learn it stock first.

ActiveAero,
Why are you still running stock suspension when STX allows for an aftermarket one? I found that the stock suspension allows too much body roll to my liking. IMO the Mugen lowdowns work great for autoX. You get the increased negative camber to help you with the turns, lower center of gravity, decrease in body roll, and you can dial in the understeer/oversteer with the suspension as opposed to just tire pressure.
DOH. Sorry just realized that you said you're a newb at auto-x. I ran my first two 2 autox's with the stock suspension and then changed over to the Mugen lowdowns and rear sway bar. I thought the car was much easier to drive and more responsive in the turns with the lowdowns. Oh.. And the Azenis on MF-10's (16x7) seemed to help give awesome traction and turn-in response. There's none of that sloppy feeling that people report with the 15x6 wheels.

If you're just starting out leave it stock. However, you can do a few mods & still be stock like cat-back, decent tires (i.e. Azenis), and different filter element (no intake though). If you mod it out, like mine was (header, MSD) your PAX will be much higher and the performance difference is not worth it unless you do extensive mods. I suggest everyone with the R autocross it at least once to see what the car is really capable of.

Learn to drive the car in its existing configuration. Learning how to drive is going to lower your times way more than parts will.
