im just curious...
what do many of you think a mechanic, or mechanics, that work at a honda dealer garage think of stock 5th generation preludes or Prelude SH's when ever they see one getting maintenance done or anything else done? do you think that they drool over them, or do you think that they think it's a nice car and wanna take it for a spin...are there any mechanics out there?
does anyone have any interesting stories or experiences while having their prelude in the shop????
i mean im sure anyone and everyone drools over an s2000 whenever it's at honda right? so what do they think of 5th gen preludes and prelude SH's??

well the H22-powered vehicles are Honda's second sportiest models behind the S2K. Oh oops no offense to Civic Si drivers.
Anyways I'm sure the average grease monkey Honda mechanic drools over DOHC VTEC Ludes. I know a Honda mechanic that totalled a customer's 4th gen VTEC on a test drive (he just had to take it into the tripple digits). I've worked at dealerships. Any customer car will be ragged on by staff, especially the quick cars.

I hate taking my car to any type of mechanic, but I have to for safety inspections. Most of the younger guys get all googly eyed at the sight of my car. I stand close by my car when they inspect it, and it never leaves the parking lot. I am sure if I dropped the car off, it would be taken for "test drives".
I am sure any type of cool sporty car breaks up the monotony of working on boring *** 4 door Accords.

that is pretty frightening to hear, that a mechanic totalled a 4th gen by taking it to triple digits? What happen to the customer and to the mechanic? im sure honda owed him a new car and the mechanic got fired?
yeah if i were a mechanic i would drool over vtec ludes and s2ks. but mechanics are probably the luckiest, i ve never driven in an s2k and there are probably many mechanics that have...
im guessing most honda mechanics don't hang around sites like these do they??? it would be cool to hear what they think. They probably know a crap load of stuff about our cars but don't tell anyone of us...

Well I work at a dealership and speaking for me and my fellow techs, we don't drool over anything.. so you got a cool car, big whoop.. dealers also have a huge inventory of cars just like yours! I drove 3 different brand new dealer owned S2000's today ( I say that to trigger the Pavlov theory
) and that didn't get me to excited.. so why would a customer owned vehicle?
You have to understand that most of us are tech's and not hobbyist's, I know hundreds of tech's.. most don't care about getting the most HP or top performance or even the quality of the car that they drive.. we have the same problems that everyone else has, my muffler fell off about 3 months ago and I don't see me fixing it in the near future, my fellow tech has had a "check engine" light illuminated for over 3 years, another is testing the life of his cv joint w/ a broken boot, you should hear that thing clatter! and the list goes on.. its kinda funny when we all get together and talk about the condition of our vehicles.. except we know the "limit" of what we drive..
I drive about 15 brand new vehicles in a day.. I can see how that would get some people giddy.... do it for a few years and its no big thing..
I can see how some "roque" mechanics/techs/detailers would joy ride in a customers tricked out ride, but those are the places you don't need to bring your car to... all in all, we fix cars, not abuse them..
