swap questions and legality
Ok if I have a JDM ZC out of a CRX is a USDM CRX. It's not really a swap is it? I'm trying to drop down a class from SM2. If I had imported a CRX from Japan and had it legalized here in the US it would be the stock motor so couldn't I then run it in STX? So If I can do that why can I put a DOHC ZC in a USDM CRX and have it be considered a stock motor? Just a stupid question but I was wondering about it. Thanks for all the help so far. And if that is possible why couldn't you swap a b16 out of a SIR CRX in and have that be a stock motor? How do they classify JDM cars when it comes to AutoX?
two things:
1) Since ST folllows along with stock rules in the sense that all cars eligible must be available for purchase in the US you wouldn't be able to import a CRX and run STX
2) crx's aren't eligible for any ST classes b/c they don't have four seats and four seat belts.

I think all JDM cars will go right into the appropriate modified class. All stock, sp, and prepared classes have production minimums for cars available in the US. A Canadian guy was protested sucessfully out of a nation championship a few years ago because he had an old Datsun roadster equipped in a manner not available in the US.
Unfortunatley SM and SM2 are catchall classes without any real attempt to make different cars and prep levels competitive. You can try your logic with the comp board, but they will shoot it down without a second thought. A better suggestion might be to ask them about creating a lesser SM class for smaller NA motors in smaller cars. Don't hold your breath though.
