Default 10 sec combo for less than.....7k

there are so many combos...i just would like to see what others are theorizing on or are actually building, have built or will build.

Im on a limited budget, trying to do it for less than 8k

purchase gsr shortblock-$700 or less
resleeve block to 87mm-900
high compression pistons-500(arius or je) atleast 13.1
custom rods-$300
ls crank/knifedges-$300(or some other crank...yet to be determined)
headwork(the works) 1500-gsr head
skunk2-stage 3 or RS cams-$7-900
RC injectors 370cc-$350
jg edelbrock intake manifold-$3-400
hytek or ERE headers -$900
ERE 70mm TB-??????
lighten my ITR flywheel...

lets say this will be in a EF8/9....

what kinda hp and projected times with this? feel free to add or make suggestions...just tossing out a combo in my head....i havent forgotten about about suspension...i'll save that for another post

id ditch the gsr head, we've had most luck w/ a PR3 head (ITR/B16).
I also prefer a SMS header
ditch the jg IM for ITB"s
get a whole new FW rather than just ligtening a stock ITR one.
dont forget a clutch
dont forget tranny
also dont forget some kind of management unit.

still probably wont be a 10 sec car.

I don't know where you are gettin custom rods but you can plan to spend quite a bit more. Mine were $700...not trying to flame but it ALWAYS costs more than planned. Good luck.

7k? Try atleast double that in your motor and another 10 in your chassis\suspension....and you still wont hit 10s.

ITS not a CRAZY motor that can get you into the 10s.
Its so formula now to build a good HP motor.
what separates 11 sec and 10 sec is proper suspension and weight.

you cant just stick a high HP motor into a stock suspension car and expect 10 sec.
7K budget is only for the motor.. thers slicks, suspension, etc to think about as well.

well to hit tens you gonna need some REAL ****

1. at least 14:1+. And its Arias by the way...
2. 370s are not gonna cut it, 440-550s should do the trick
3. toss the flywheel and get a real one.
4. look in to SMS as well for a header...
5. I'm still a lil iffy on the JG intake manifold, you can probably make with an ITR/Skunk..
6. and the most important of all, ENGINE MANGEMENT....... I would go hondata, and don't let anyone tell you different, it is a STANDALONE..

good luck

IMHO youd be a fool to go to 87MM the first time out. go to 85 then work your way up. simply for cost reasons. blocks are expensive to buy and resleeve.

Your really dont all that much power to go 10's at NHRA weight. Im gonna say 240 with proper gearing and slick size. Charlies car last year went 11.53@114 with about 215whp. I say about because we never dyno'd or tuned it. the gearing was not great but decent. gsr tranny with a 4.78 and a spool. The car weighed 1704 with me in it. the reason it went 11.53 isnt because of power (look at the speed). The car went so fast because it had a good suspension (N1 coilovers) and was at weight.

7000 can build the motor to go 10's IMHO

but you still need a tranny, ecu, and a chassis that is what it should be

Thanx for the honest reply. I was just trying to toss around a combo that would be capable of 270+ hp for less than 8k in the motor. I would probably go with an aftermarket flywheel(tilton) and RC 440 injectors...

I know i still need suspension, stand alone, and tranny work. I just wanted to see if less than 8k in the motor would be possible. I havent forgot about the rest of the car...still a lot of decisions to ba made....unibody...or back half.

anyone else have a better combo?

take off the doors, hatch, hood, all interior(even dash). just make it weigh in at 1000 or less with driver. cut metal if u have to. then for the motor... h22 with a few goodies. use slicks. then maybe u will
