Comptech Header .... just my .02cts
Hey Folks!
I bought a full comptech Header and xhaust combo ways back when I bought my car. (98ish) At the time I didn't really know too much about the aftermarket indsutry so i went with Comptech because of claimed their affiliation with Acura & realtime. Plus it didn't void the warranty. what ever ..... anyways I just had all the bottle necks removed from my exhaust including the Cat. (replaced) I come to find out that the collector pipe of the header is only 2". Comptech swore left and right that their system was 2-1/4" straight through. Even today they said it was 2-1/4" at the collector until I challenged BOB at comptech. He then measured it for himself and said " Well what do you know .... it is 2" !!! hmm I gues I lied he he ...."
Not only that, the flange after the cat is restricted by a lipped plate which measures alot less that 2". I'll measure it tonight for exact measurement.
This could possibly explain why I always felt my lowend was stronger that others and top end sucked!
My next concern is the flange connecting the muffler. I hope there is no restriction there!
As of now, the car sounds awesome with the 2.5" Catco cat and bottlenecks removed.
Thanks!
Nick - who wishes he can find a cheaply priced JDM header right now.

i bought a 98itr w/23000 miles, that came w/comptech header and exhaust that he plcd on only after 4000 miles,i runnign a test pipe right now, when we dynoed my car aftr the test pipe it showed abt 6horse increase,is the anything else you think i could do to improve flow, would a exhaust w/ 2-1/4 would make any noticable difference, just curious
Replace the Cat if you can ..... also right after the cat, that flange needs to be cut off and replaced. The pipe diameter is 2-1/4" but the flange restricts it down to 1-3/4". Again this is the flange on the B pipe.
Also the intermediate pipe from the collector to the first "Y" is only two inches. You can have that flared our to match up to a 2.5" cat. Either use a flex joint or spring flange. I can tell you right now, you won't have the same low-end (1000-3800 rpms) but up above is alot more responsive.
Total for me including Catco 2.5", all hardware and labor (all stainless), and tax was $258.60
Not bad!

yeah not bad,can a regular muffler shop handle this for me,i dont have performance shop like in my other town
Yeah most muffler shops can do it. I had mine done by an exhaust enthusiast/expert/coolguy. He's been doing exhausts and pipe bending for 30 years. He can work with any kinds of SS or aluminized metals.
Let us know whay you do.
