Default Going all out on the ALL Motor Lude, opinions wanted..thanks

well in jan im getting a new bike an 03 gixxer600, also getting an older nissan p/u...so i can finally start really working on my car since i can park it, right now its my only transportation....anyways.....here goes....i want higher comp...but i dont wanna have to sleeve a perfectly good block and aftermarket piston rings dont go well with the material honda puts on the cylinder walls...so...can i use forged pistons like JE or weisco..and use honda rings? if not im going with type S pistons, and a thinner head gasket, i think that will get me near 11.5:1...but i want 12 to 1, next i got my hands on a bare h22 head which im sending out to portflow, saw some very impressive dynos...im doing the whole valvetrain.....i was going to go completely with JUN here...but are the crowers or skunk stage 2 about the same..opinions taken.....im not sure if im going to switch headers, my greddy one is impressive, howeverif i can see distinct proof that the SMSP header is the real deal, ill switch....then i was going to have a custon SS exhaust made..2 3/4" that connect straight to the headerive talked to some and they think this would be a good sizeill be running this to my N1 muffler on my exhaust now, and cutting and using the hanger on it....at the track i run open header anywaysbut with the exhaust opened up, do u think it would benifit running open header anymore?....ok i also plan to add ignition, TB, either a Euro R manifold extrude honed and ported or skunk if they ever get off thier asses....but will a racing one work...alot of people told me thier more for forced induction...tranny, im adding a quaife, and a final drive...ACT clutch SS disc and fidanza flywheel....all this will be run by an FMU greddy maybe? AEM? FAST? still up in the air....at the track ill be running slicks then....what do u guys think, ill take any suggestions, i wanna have my plan laid all out before i start, thanks in advance...peace

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by PreludeRacer023 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Well, in Jan. I am getting a new bike, an '03 gixxer600, I'm also getting an older Nissan pick-up. So, I can finally start really working on my car since I can park it, right now its my only transportation.

Anyway, here goes: I want higher compression, but I don't want to have to sleeve a perfectly good block, and aftermarket piston rings don't go well with the material Honda puts on the cylinder walls; so, can I use forged pistons like JE or Wiseco, and use Honda rings? If not, I'm going with Type-S pistons, and a thinner head gasket, I think that will get me near 11.5:1, but I want 12:1...(I've always been told that forged pistons on an H22= sleeved block, but I could have heard wrong. If you're really gonna go all out, don't half-*** it. I think the $900 is more than worth it)

Next, I got my hands on a bare H22 head which I'm sending out to Portflow, saw some very impressive dynos from them. I'm doing the whole valvetrain also. I was going to go completely with JUN there, but are the Crower's or Skunk2 Stage 2 about the same? Opinions needed. (I'm looking for a bare head as well, how much did you pay for yours? Portflow is going to be my choice also, but with Webcams. )

I'm not sure if I'm going to switch headers; my Greddy one is impressive, however if I can see distinct proof that the SMSP header is the real deal, then I'll switch. (You haven't seen the dynos? If you're serious, do a search or IM/e-mail Dave, I'm convinced that they're the real deal...)

Then I was going to have a custom exhaust made, 2 3/4" that connects straight to the header. I've talked to some people and they think this would be a good size. I'll be running this to my N1 muffler that's on my exhaust now, and cutting and using the hanger on it. At the track I run an open header anyway, but with the exhaust opened up, do you think it would benefit from running an open header anymore?

Ok, I also plan to add ignition, TB, either a Euro R manifold (Extrude-honed) and ported or the Skunk2 IM, if they ever get off their asses, but will a racing one work?!? A lot of people told me they are more for forced induction...(Check out the post about the pending Euro-R IM install kit; that would be a huge help. I don't think Skunk2 really gives a **** about the H22 anymore, all their R&D seems to be going into the K-Series engines.)

As for the tranny, I'm adding a Quaife LSD, and a final drive, an ACT clutch w/SS disc and a Fidanza flywheel. All of that will be run by an FMU (Greddy maybe? AEM? FAST? It's all still up in the air). At the track I'll be running slicks then.

So, what do you guys think?!? I'll take any suggestions. I want to have my plan all laid out before I start. Thanks in advance. Peace.</TD></TR></TABLE>
That was REALLY ******* annoying dude, but that should help get your questions answered. Oh, and you're welcome...

Sounds like you are shooting for a decent mild setup.

The SMSP header is the real deal, Dave doesnt make stuff that is just hype. It will out perform a Greddy, DC, whatever else you wish to insert.

IMO 2 3/4 is too big, 2.5 is what you want

I IM'd Dave and asked him to bless us with a recent H22 SMSP header dyno, I had trouble finding the last one he posted. Anyone have the link?

the skunk 2 manifold would be very nice. the euro r/type s is fine too. a new clutch/lightened flywheel is allways good for the car. as far as header an smsp or an-r header will do the trick. hondata is the way to go for your engine management though. you can literally do everything with the hondata unit. you can get a basic unit for 300 bucks or go all out and spend over 1k on it. it's all up to you and what your goals are and your budget. if it were me i'd resleeve and run 11.5:1 compression and get a new head gasket. don't forget about the gaskets. cometic head gasket and hondata im gasket= 22x8/22x7.5 slicks are nice. especially on 8-12psi. make sure to stock up on axles and halfshafts though. and i'd gut the car too while i was at it. as far as head goes. i'm personally going complete skunk 2 on mine. i'll be using the skunk2 stage 2's. make sure to get a 3 angle valve job and slightly larger injectors. 370cc is nice. 440cc is all out drag car for all motor. . a good fuel setup is nice. aem/str. etc. etc. like i've said. it all depends on your goals and budget.

This is the link on the production header info.
The pictures are of the 4th prototype header

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=491394

Some changes where made to prototype #4 and hence

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=527075

and yet some more in order to make the header fit the ATTS vehicles (but I still need a donor car to verify this fitment)

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=538636

Dynos of the first 3 prototypes

Run #13 Header #3 1/04/03
Run #16 Header #2 1/04/03
Run #10 Header #1 8/1/02

Hey, I think Skunk2 still has their bare head. I believe they wanted $800 but it comes with a full race P&P, I believe the head was also milled and a few other details. It's one of their race heads they used on one of their cars

weisco makes the only set of pistons you can use w/out resleeving. someone on here has been running that setup for a while, but i cant remember who.

i went full ferria valvetrain, but thats all up to you, jun is good also. you might want to check w/dpr they do good jobs on heads as well.

from what i here, the skunk2 mani works good on n/a cars unlike the victorx and such which are for fi.

hondata is a great ecu, i used a p72. you can get a s100 for under 200.

the final drive is way over priced, and not worth imo. i mean i have the m2b4, jdm lsd tranny, and the only reason i dont switch in 4th in the 1/4 mi. is cause i have a raised redline. w/your tranny and a finial drive, plus being built you might be switching into 5th, and thats not good.

are you going to get some good rods, since it all torn apart anyway?

do you plan on spraying it? n2o loves high compression, as long as its tuned good.

all in all sounds good...good luck

btw- do you have a set amount you want to spend? if not dont, is so, double it and add 500, then youll be close to what you end up spending.
