You shoulda just got your stock shifter, cut about 2 inches or so out of it, and welded it back together, works a lot better :/
My friend bought one of those "Short shifters" from some folks on ebay, it was actually bigger than his stock shifter and didn't even fit, so I cut his down and welded it back, came out really well. That type of thing is what makes me give a rats *** about the "deals" you can get on e-bay(unless the seller has a very high seller rating)

You realize that short shifters arent actually shorter in length, they are short "throw" shifters. They are shorter by moving those 2 ball joint thingy's closer together, i think. Any ways those cheap ebay shortshifters are crap, they snap very easily, u shudda went the skunk 2 route

You tightened the nut toooo hard. Keep adjusting it until you like how the shifter feels. As for the rattling, make sure that it is not touching your resonator or something. And also, try adding washers in between the shifter and the linkage so its nice and snug. I found out that works for most of my friends

I couldn't be happier w/ my $40 AutoZone short throw shifter. Nothing rattles, shifts very easily, and throws are very short, as in flick of the wrist shifting. With the stock **** it's stock height inside the car. My Razo **** sits shorter, so that shortens the throws a bit more. Using the spacers that came w/ the shifter, I was able to tighten the bolt all the way w/o it affecting shift effort. I've had this thing almost 2 years with zero problems.
yeah the skunk2 looks awesome, and I'd love to have one, but I really can't justify spending $100+ just to replace something that already works great. AutoZone shifters
*edit* and yes I have tracked this car w/ this shifter, and still no problems.

ya i had the same problem with mine i got off ebay
its probaly because the shift linkage is rubbing on the exhaust
look at it and see if the part of the shift linkage behind the shifter itself is rubbing
mine used to rattle, all i did is drop the exhaust and take the little heat sheild off the exhaust right where it hangs
fixed mine

Yea, what he said. Try to bend the hangers on the b pipe and if you can't, take it to a muffler shop and they'll bend it for you for cheap. That's what i did and they charged me $10. But now i'm afraid that it's hanging too low, so i might have them push it up when i lower my car..
