How hard is it to open up a guage cluster?
I have a JDM ITR Guage Cluster which I plan on putting in my other car (Civic Hybrid) but the mileage on the cluster is close to 200,xxx. I was wondering how hard it is to open up the cluster and set the miles back? Is it possible without breaking anything?
well it is easy to take the cluster apart, but i dont think its easy to roll the miles back. i saw a post about this a long time ago, not sure if it was archived or not. sorry i cant give you all the info...

I have done it successfully on two clusters. One was a obd1 gsr cluster which was a parts cluster just for fun, and the second was a Canadian type r cluster which is actually in use on an unregistered race car. The process isn't that hard once you get the front clear piece off and the black surround go ahead and pull the needle off for the speedometer, and unscrew the screws holding it in directly behind it. Once you have done that the face should come off, I can't remember if they were glued on to the acutal gauge itself so take your time with it. After that just look at the top of the gauge where the pin with the counter gears are at on it and raise one end of it rotate the numbers to desired mileage and pop pin back into place. Reassemble.
I havent done this on a car that is a registered vehicle but I have heard that you have to indicate to the dmv in your state that you have rebuilt the car and show documentation probably. But that is how to do it anyway.

It is possible. Just use your head and look at things closely and you can do it.

By the way, I made this picture. JDMcivic.com did not.
