Well, looks like I may be going vtec now.....shitty story inside.
Mis shifted into 2nd after bouncing off 1st gear redline the other night and hurt the "high rpm" LS. Looked down at the tach and I was seeing the needle bounce back and forth past 9500----i thought at the time **** it, I dont care if it blows! Not sure exactly what it is, but Im almost positive something with the oil pump.....I havent pulled it apart yet so I dont know. Im getting a ticking noise through most of the RPM band. Mechanical oil pressure guage is still getting psi but drop about 10 psi once it see's 80 and also acts a little weird at idle during warmup. At first I thought t-belt skipped---pulled the cover and checked, it didnt skip. While under there I checked valve lash--everything cool there. Pulled plugs---still ok.
As soon as I get time Im gonna pull the pan and check out the pump. Hopefully the sound I hear isnt a spun main bearing, but if that was the case I would see more fluctuation in oil pressure or none at all I think.
So recently I picked up a b16 head and intake that needs miscellanous ****. Im thinking I may build a crappy lsvtec longblock while I pull the monster LS apart and overbore it to 83mm. I'm gonna keep the LS in the longrun, but I would like to see what I can do on a stock lsvtec with just forged pistons.
Anyone have any shortblocks for sale??
What do you guys think the ticking is? Give me some ideas before i pull it apart.

Sorry about that, I know where you are coming from especially after my block was bad before it was even run. I do have a built b16 short block if you are interested.
Don't lie Dan, you saw my MaD Vt3k PoWeReD ITR and now want to convert
. J/K sorry to hear about that. I was looking forward to seeing the LS do some high boost pulls at Dyno Day.

I want a Nissan 2.0 with VT(E)C and a six speed! I won't lie, but can't afford it, so I'll stick with my old 2.4 "ls"

When I misshifted my ls/vtec I had bent valves also. Do a quick compression test to verify this. Good luck.
i think pulling the pan is the next step. i told you it sounds like a rod knock when you you give it a little rev. like you have mad diesel power y0
