i dunno my friend convinced me out of doing a B16 na and going with LS/Vtec NA because of the "potential" of it compared to eachother
just some food for thought
just some food for thought
well i guess its a little too late for that but thanks for the info ill keep that in mind for the next car i build cause i do have a mint ls motor on the stand
what are your goals? how much money will you have to dedicate to teh car? what is your experience w/ fixing cars? Can you afford to potentially have down time? Do you have access to a dyno? These are some of the major questions to ask before definatively decide on either route.
If it were me, I wouldn't risk boosting that B16. But then again, if you can afford the boost and really, that engine itself, I'd say go for it. I'm too cheap and poor to buy a B16, so if I had it, I wouldn't risk force feeding it... Catch mah drift?

wow lots of good responses so far. In answer to the above question i can afford downtime with the car i am very experienced with cars i can do the enginebuild myself. But it is my first experience with the b16 and just would like to know how many people boost and how many dont and how they like the setups they have.
i like turbos alot but its just not me... im much more impressed with n/a hondas running 13's and faster than with a boosted car... its much more challenging to get more power out of a n/a car
I say go N/A. Why, because you get to have a motor that revs to 10 grand or more, it sounds like a crotch rocket, you have more reliability then if you go BOoSt, not as expensive but still expensive, and you don't have to drill the block for the oil return line.
Just that alone made me cringe at boosting my car. N/A all the way. If I boost anything it will be VW. They come with low compression from factory. Honda N/A can have 13:1 compression.
Good luck,

you can boost to 10k on a boosted motor as long as its built.

well with a B16 I would only go turbo! simply because it would cost wayyyy to much to get that B16 in to the 12's all motor. Turbo that with the common t3t4 with 10psi and get it tuned with hondata or tuned very well with AFC, you should be making about 250-270whp good enought for 12'sec passes. B16 can take about 13psi max...but can go more, it depends on the tunner.

damn dude your motor isnt gonna last long boosting 10,000psi... i dont care how built up it is

I didn't have to drill my block? You have to drill a hole in your oil pan, it's basiclly sheet metal it's really not difficult. Think of the sound of a turbo car with a low whistle that grows as you reach 8200RPMs at which point the turbo is howling, you shift and hear the whoosh of air exit your charge pipes. B00st.

haha you sound freaken funny.... LOL newbies helping newbies with misinformation.
Well 1st of all B16 has a very good r/s raio of 1.74 which is very nice and can rev up to about 8k IF you built it up it can rev to about 9.5k......... if you rev more than that in a NA B16 then you are A)stupid B) drunk/hi C) mis-shift
no cams make power up that high... if so please find me a cam that is streetable and makes power pas 9.5k....
REV the **** out of that B16 in stock form and you'll have a fancy paper weight.
I don't even know were to start with trying to correct all of this BS that some other people posted.
You don't know ***** about reliablity and boost.. (who ever said that) above^^^
and who the **** drills a hole inthe back of their block for a damn oil returne line? people like you I guess..... damn i'm just getting pissed off. Oh well can't save all the newbies of misinformantion.
If you want the correct answer IM me and if i don't know the answer i'll direct you to memebers who know what their talking about.

i beg to differ... b16s can be plenty fast n/a... dont you know that all b-series blocks are the same size just the bore is different... you can buy 2 liter stroker kits for b16s... a stroked n/a b16 would spank alot of turbo cars... just depends on your wallet... n/a can run you into alot more money searching for lost power... turbos are cool nonetheless, but they are not much fun to tune imo... you want to go faster?... just turn up the boost... wow it takes a friggin genius to figure that out... prob some idiot boosting his 13 year old stock d16 12psi and making one 13 sec pass... what a waste

Well, I like driving a sleeper, so big front mounts and BOV's are out of the question. I'm staying n/a, but it really depends on what your goals for the car are. Boost is almost always faster, but n/a is more impressive to me. Good luck!
have you yet decided where you're going with your car? are you actually looking to get into some form of racing (ie: auto-x, drag, etc.)? if you want a fairly fast street car, stick with your b16 and go with boltons. i was planning on fully building my b16, but my friend/mechanic took me for a ride in a b20-turbo del sol. only boosting 8lbs on a stock block (but tuned), that car was pushing damn near 275whp with torque soaring through the roof. i too will be the proud owner of a similar setup within a month, so if anyone wants some b16 parts (rods, itr im, lightened fw, ctr pistons) let me know.

Wow lots of info here. Thanks guys for all the replies can some of you post some of your setups of others you know bot turbo or n/a so i can get some ideas of which turbo kits are better and some n/a setups with specific cams and pistons etc. Thanks again tommy
