how many of guys get smoke blow by on full throttle burst or downshifts? after 5k on my new motor a couple of my friends who have been travelling behind me said that they saw a significant amount of blow by on the freeway at times. should i be concerend?

setup:
b18c1 block
ctr standard size pistons
stock headgasket
skunk2 stage 2 cams
portflow vavle train etc etc

 

i too have the puff of smoke during hard acceleration after 6k- 7k and hard downshifting..and so do most other b series vtec motors i see at the track. i'm running 5w 30 oil..pretty thin oil

 

Signifigant amount???? Does the smoke have a blue hue or look more black?

 

I think it's pretty normal for any 75k+ motor to give a puff of smoke during hard acceleration. It depends on how much it's puffing out though...

But you said your B18C is new? Rebuilt? If so, then I'd be worried. It could be a variety of things... Perhaps it's just running a little rich upon the VTEC x-over point. Or perhaps oil is leaking into the combustion chamber somehow.

I'm sure a compression and leakdown test would be very helpful, start with the worst case scenario first.
