HELP, PLEASE!!
ok, so i'm driving down the street, by the way, i'm 15, learning how to drive my dad's honda del sol, its a stick, and the god damn car stalls on me. then, as if that's not imbaracing enough, the god damn car starts bucking on me, stupid P.O.S., so that's more imbaracing, my dad says it's because i'm pumping the gas, but i know i'm not, cause i don't feel my leg goin up and down when it happens. i know with the stalling, it's cause i'm lettin out the clutch too early, but the bucking, how do i stop that, cause it's imbaracing, and imagine being in a car w/ someone and it starts bucking, what would you think?? it sucks, someone please help me. i'm getting ready to give up the del sol and get an auto, that's how frustrating it is. besides, i don't think stick is more fun than auto anyways. can anyone help me, please!!!
Take it back man!!!! Take it back!!!! Do not get an automatic.
Your probably not pushing the clutch in soon enough or fast enough. You just have to learn how to work the clutch. It's easy after you figure it out. Trust me, it will be worth learning.

There are two really easy ways to stop the bucking. Floor it, or pull your foot completely off the gas. For a new driver with his dad, I don't suggest the first one.
side note - just use humiliating.

keep the manual.....it the fun way to go, you will find out sooner or later
when the car starts buckin, to stop it just push the clutch all the way down, and hold it. then start over in first........keep at it you will get it

ok, so basically, let out the gas and try again??? what is the reason for it's occuring though. why should the car buck?? all i'm doing is letting out the clutch and pushing in the gas, there's no need for it to buck. am i letting the clutch out too soon?? am i hitting the gas too hard?? i'm so confused
your doing exactly what you said, and thats whats causing it.......be gentle.... have some finesse.......do this.....hold the clutch in...put it in first....slowly let go of the clutch, when you feel it start to move your car forward a little, add some gas and your off.....i taught my sister that way, and she learned it fast.
either that, or you pops should put you in the car, on a hill and just say "get out of first" you will learn sooner or later

You are letting out the clutch too fast for the amount of gas you are giving it. Try riding the clutch a bit. Don't just dump it, feather it. After a while you will get used to taking off normal.

The best way to learn to drive a manual IMHO is what 93egsi suggested.
Find an empty parking lot and put the car in first gear. Slowly let out the clutch. At some point, you will feel the clutch grab, and the car will seem as if it wants to move forward. What usually happens is that you won't be able to feel the clutch grab right away and the car will stall. That's okay. Your first goal is to have the car stall smoothly, without violent bucking and shaking. If, when you let the clutch out, the car stalls bad, you know you're coming off the clutch too fast.
When you get to the point where you can consistently feel the clutch grab and the car move a bit, that's when you give it some gas. Not too much, just enough to get moving.
Take the time to get the feel of the clutch down. It's a lot easier to take this one step at a time; instead of trying to do both the gas and clutch at once, just practice getting the clutch right. Once your left foot knows what its doing, things will be simpler.
As for the bucking, I don't really know what to tell you except just to keep at it. I had the same problem in my car. I learned to start from a stop pretty quickly, but it took a while to be completely smooth on my upshifts. Learning the point at which the clutch grabs helps quite a bit. Take some time and practice on a road with no traffic. Upshift, then ride the clutch out...go slow with it, and you'll feel it grab. Then, just as if you're taking off from a complete stop, give it a little gas.
Slow and smooth is the key.
Practice makes perfect, and you'll see improvement. I guarantee that. And don't be embarrassed about stalling the car or the bucking. Everyone has been there, and everybody knows it's not always easy the first time. Just stick with it and soon you'll be driving with the best of 'em
Also, once you do get the manual thing down, you'll be very glad you didn't get an automatic. Not only is knowing how to drive a manual a good skill to have, it's also much more fun than any slush-o-matic. There are some times that it sucks (traffic jams, anyone?), but there are other times that definitely make up for that.
Good luck

the way i learned to drive a stick was that my first car was a stick and i just bought it....never driven one before and i had to drive it home so therefore i had to learn how to drive it.....i will admit though....it was a four speed and i kept looking for 5th so i put it in 3rd thinking it was 5th and drove like 35 miles like that.....just my $.02 and now i'm broke.....
