Default Question for u guys w/ the d16....??

You guys with the d16's.... how do u feel the Vtec engagement, i'm crossing the 5k and i can't feel it, can u notice it alot or not, i knw in the b16 you can notice more, but i dont know about the d16, my vtec solenoid was recently broken, my check engine light was on, i just put a wire in like jumped it and it seems fine, the check engine light went off, but i still dont feel any engagement, i did this to the valve that broke, it's the valve that checks the oil pressure i think and engages the vtec, but i still can't feel it...

i got a d16y8 and i can feel it kick in. Wire a led to your pressure switch and it should light up around 5k, vtec is engaging

i can't really feel mine kick in either. its just that the engine goes to a slightly higher pitch. and when you're side by side with somebody your car just pulls ahead ever so slightly.

Could you feel VTEC before this issues?

I have a D16Z6 and I cannot feel VTEC, but I have no problems. SOHC VTEC engagement is usually noticeable if you listen for it, however, I have never felt a HP gain after engagement.

if you don't feel the torque change after vtec engages, its time for better mods. ive got a big tb, matched y8 manifold and 4-1 header. vtec speeds the rpms up real fast.[

I agree, I am pulling the d16s out of both my civics and swapping them for B16A2s.

my d16y8, vtec kicks in anywhere from 5000-5700.....maybe its just me but sometimes its different, depending on how hard i'm on the gas, you know sometimes you have it mashed but not totally floored? It seems to come on earlier at wide open throttle. Anyone know if its a set engagement point or if the ecu is running the show?

from what i've read, vtec will kick in at different rpm's depending on load...

i've also got a bored tb and matched im for the d16z6. make an offer...a decent one.

If your runnin headers exhaust you can only hear it kick in (deeper tone) with turbo you cant hear it, I could never feel my vtec its just ur imagination, I guess it thought i used to feel it when normal aspirated but these motors put out a mere 105whp what is there to feel?

I have a stock 97 civic hx, well except for power pulleys and k&n filter, I added a pipe to my airbox and it just sticks through the front for a cheap cai. anyways I can even tell when mine hits vtec even though mine is setup at 2,700 rpm it's not a huge difference by all means but I can hear and feel a little bit.

usually single cam vtec doesnt kick that hard. you should be able to hear it, but you wont feel vtec like a DOHC motor.

Didn't read everything. My d16z6 is stock with 180,000 miles on it and I can't hear or feel vtec engagement at all. I wired a light to the solenoid as a test and it indicated it was engaging.
