I'm bias b/c I have the DIY Icebox w/K&N filter, but it works great and costs less.

Has there been a dyno to this?
I saw an ITR dyno where this set up actually lost HP power over a stock ITR. The stock ITR is really a semi-cold air.

I have seen the same dyno, but remember that the ITR intake (resonator, etc.) is quite a bit different from the GS that I put the DIY Icebox on. I am not saying that I see dramatic gains with the DIY, but I seriously doubt that I am worse off than I was with the stock intake, stock filter, and stock resonator all in place.

diy icebox definately over aem short ram. short rams' just suckin' hot air from around the engine.

I pulled this quote from SurferX's post about why he doesn't use a long tube intake anymore. Cold air intakes aren't worth the extra 1-2hp. No matter what you do or where you are a CAI will pull in more sediment and trash than a SRI or stock intake. That's why the comptech is icebox is the best.

You're looking at the top of the my intake box and into the tube that goes down to my turn signal.
The story behind this is that I noticed alot of crap buildup in the lower air horn of my intake box about 6 months ago. So I wiped it clean and put it back. Now today I checked it again and this is what I saw. It's all back. So despite the fact that there is a fenderwell cover, splash guard, and bumper cover down there, obviously they doesn't block everything that your car runs through at freeway speeds everyday. It's a harsh evironment out there, and I don't want to put my engine's lifeline in the way of all that. Yes air filters are made to block debris like this, but they simply can't block everything. Ask Mike D, who found crap like this in his motor when it was taken apart.

next question, I know, you guys are sick of me already but one more. I've exchanged few emails with bsq and he revealed that I can use aem short ram with his diy
which will be better as far as performance is concerened?

Taking the cover off totally defeats the purpose. YOu are sucking in hot air.
However using the short ram intake tubing would be slightly benefitial being that you could have better airflow through the tube.

who was this directed to?
but if you think thats true... i suggest you make complaints to AEM then

As previously stated, don't take the cover off your airbox. If you go through the work to try to funnel cold/cool air up to your filter from behind the turn signal, don't ruin it by taking the cover off.
I saw the same dirt when I took apart my icebox and cleaned it but the dirty layers ends no where near the box itself.
I say about 6" of 1-2mm thick of dirt but like I said, only in the entry path.
If you see any type of film of dirt after the filter, then I would worry.

I am sure it does and more importantly, the roads you drive on.
I cleaned mine after two years of driving. It was dirty but not too bad. Like I said, the film of dirt is just around the airhorn.
BTW, my car is just mildly dropped, 0.75" all around.

I don't know who did it, but they took the accordion hose from a clothes dryer and connected it to the stock airbox and routed it to behind the turn signal. I did it as well, and it's much better than my previous SRI and CAI. Since I had the hose lying around, it didn't cost me anything, and it out performed my previous intakes. Oh, all of this was on the butt dyno. Since I used the stock airbox, there is hardly any noise from the intake, so I'm not hearing any extra hp.
