Default Which swap should I do

K, here is the senerio, I have an 89 civic si. I was thinkin on doin an b18b(u.s)swap. My friend told me to do a b16a(jdm). I was wondering what others on this site have experienced with different swaps and which ones they liked the best. This will help me findout which one i want also. Price is a factor too.

mod for mod in the same car i think the b16 would be faster but people like the b18 for turbo and such, more than the b16 anyways. ive talked to swap shops and they charge the same for both, its weird. but if your a do it yourselfer all the parts and such the b18 would be cheaper and it wont leave you dissapointed. people love the torque. but it does lack in the top end. from my research anyways.

If you can get a B18b with a s1 tranny you should be able to hang with any B16... The B16 has a nicer redline but the torque on the B18 will make you happier...

yeah thats true, the b18 with the shorter geared tranny will help.. does it affect highway driveability though? ive always wondered, i get mixed answers. might wanna look into that as well.

save your money and build up the d16a6 you already have built d16a6 is cheaper than a b16a swap. i put a d16a6 in my crx hf and i used to smoke crx si's w/b16's
IMO if you're gonna go b-series go b18c or better otherwise stick w/ the d16

The S1 and J1 came out of the integra XSi/RSi's in Japan. The Y1 tranny came out of a Jap spec civic/CRX. The S1 and J1 tranny have a 4.4 final drive ratio which is geared for acceleration. The Y1 is has less aggressive gears not sure of the specifics.

Honda put aggressive gears in the S1 and J1 to compensate for the little 1.6 pushing a heavy integra and the Y1 doesnt have aggressive gears because it came out of a lighter civic. So Honda put more aggressive gears in the S1 and J1 because of the lack of torque the b16a makes.

IMO go with the b16a, unless you are going turbo in the future because the b18b has lower compression than the b16a. But from what I've seen a b16a will pull harder than a b18b with comparable mods.

Go with the B16A swap then add the B20B/Z block ($700) down the road...then we'll talk about torque.
