What to do w/ tranny + springs, looking for cheap a-x car....
Hey everyone, I am going to get my friend's old tranny (5spd) and springs from his '98 civic ex. I plan on ripping the tranny apart and rebuilding it. Right now I'm looking for a cheap autox car, so I am considering using these free parts to my advantage and buying an older civic hb (early 90's/late 80's). I did a little research and found out that to get the tranny to work, I'd need to do a hydraulic clutch conversion, right? Is this feasable/cheap? Are the '98 springs stiffer than whatever came w/ stock hb's? Would they fit? Basically if anyone has some suggestions or ideas to help me along, I'd love to hear 'em because I don't know much about hondas, yet. Does this sound like it's worth it? I currently autocross a '93 altima and want to stop running it and keep it as a daily driver. Thanks.
the springs are too tall i believe, and no the tranny conversion is not cheap... Hasport is making a braket but I am not sure that it has been released yet... I would just try to find a 5spd Hatch and do a mini me swap or ZC with some mods for a-x... Wont cost you too much and should be able to ge some good lap times...
Hmm, so I could probably ebay the springs, but what can I do with the tranny? It grinds in a few gears and a little in neutral. I'd like to rebuild it for the learning experience, or at least rip it apart and learn something. Should I just sell it as is afterwards or convert it into a coffee table ?? Any ideas?
shoot, take it apart and see whats up with it, if you can fix it sell it, If not sell the casing and gears seperate...
Yeah, that's probably what I'll do with it. It would be great if I could make it work in a car, but it looks like that's not as easy as I thought. Thanks.
