98 Civic Ex-Remote door locks won't work
I just had to replace the auto battery in my 98 Civic EX-now the remote will not activate the power door locks-I have changed the battery in the remote so that is not the problem. Manual says after changing remote battery, you must re-set the remote by pressing is six times..but this does no good. Anyone know if there are other steps to get this to work again before I have take it to a dealer?
Thanks

excellent useless post.
if ya can't help, don't waste everyone's time.
seems like something isn't programmed right. your best bet would be to check with the dealer if it is a _factory_ keyless entry kit. you might want to verify that your's is in fact factory. many dealers were having aftermarket keyless entry kits installed and selling them as factory kits. (factory couldn't keep up with demand for a while) the non-factory units won't be serviced by the dealership, even if they installed them.
why did you replace the battery? i'd be suspicious that the problem existed _before_ you changed the battery in the remote, not after. time to crawl under the dash and look for blown fuses or loose wires. do the power locks still work from the switch inside the car?

do you have a head unit installed in your civic? because, the remote unlock and keyless entry system is incorporated into the stock head unit/radio, when you replace your stock head unit with an aftermarket one, your locks will not work, unless you get the special wireing harness from honda, or your local stereo shop should have one as well. If thats not the case and you did not replace your head unit then i'm not sure whats wrong. Take it to the dealer in that case.
Nate,
Thanks for your input and for your comment to "use the key boy" Anyway-the problem did exist before changing the battery in remote-I just thought it might be a weak battery-the other thing is I had to change the auto battery so I am wondering if that had anything to do with it. The fuse operates both the sunroof and locks-sunroof and internal power locks still work so it is not likely the fuse. I may have to go to the dealer-I am fairly certain it is a factory option, not after market.
Anyway thanks for your input.

My fiancé just had this problem last week. She brought it to the dealer and they simply reprogramed her key FOB, which was free. I'd bet you just need your remote reprogramed.

you still have the stock head unit right?
you will need to reprogram it. there is a small button between the AM/FM button and the CD/Tape button you have to turn you car on and off and push the button on you remote and that small button at the same time.

I wear it like a badge of honor, for sure.
As for the useless post, the topic sat for more than 15 mins without a single reply. Seems like a good time to interject some humor. Come one guys, you are so serious, like this was a tech forum or something.
Anyways, when you have a problem you need to fix, start simple and work from there. I actually just helped the guy to get well on his way. I gave him the entire first step.
