I call fashion. Bigger fronts would be better for most people.
The rear are there to help the brake balance.

doesn't the rear helping the brake balance equal function?

Yes it does. But, if I had limited funds I would just get the front and screw the
rears. Straight from the horses mouth. b18c5-eh2 had a freind with just
biger fronts and it outbreaked someone with just the rear discs. Or something
like that. Do a search you lazy asses!
You dont need rear discs if your not going to upgrade your fronts. So if its a
either or situation go with the fronts.

I'm not saying upgrading the fronts is rediculous or anything, but it does serve more function than form.. now, defining it between each car depends on the owners.. some do it for looks, others for track use(braking can be done in a turn
) and that's where the balance comes into effect, in a striaght line I hope a car with upgraded fronts and stock rears can outbreak a car with stock fronts and rear discs as most of the breaking is done with the front and not the rear
it depnds on use.. if I were recommending a brake upgrade to anyone, I would tell them to do both front and rear upgrades at the same time(and not to stock rears either)

Function for those that care, form for those that just like pretty things.
1. easier to switch pads when worn or at the track......switched drums recently?
2. better pad selection..... ever checked pads for drums?
3. with prop valve will provide balanced/increased braking if combined with front brake upgrade also.

I'm about to install ome rears in my HX and it's actually all about looks right now. I'm going to get some GSR fronts and master cylinder before I race it again though. And don't make fun of racing an HX, it's good practice for following the line =P
I remember reading that drums are just fine for drag racing etc. where fade is not an issue. In fact they may perform better in such situations. For periods of prolonged braking discs will resist fade much better.
I autocross a lot, so disc's suit me a little better. Especially since I'll go through pads like a.. umm.. well I'll go through a lot of them. Drums are such a pain to change.
not really function on a street-only vehicle, as i've read that discs actually stop better (but will fade).
i will be doing mine because i track my car and it's just a HUGE pain in the *** to service the drums.

Function....
As you upgrade the fronts, the stock rears will do less work. So you'll put fron bias in the car.
Optium....when you lock up the wheels when braking in a straight line....all the wheels should lock up at once.
Mine has front and rear Baer big brake kit.....now it has rear bias. The rear's just lock up way before thr fronts and you can tell under normal use the rears are doing more work, there's more brake dust. Its in the process of changing prop valves to balance the car.
When its done, it should be able to stop in about 100 feet, 60-0, instead of 130 with the stock equipment.

EXACTLY! I dont think there would be a BIG difference with straight line braking, but maybe something like autocross is when u would notice it? I would just like the luxury of big brakes up front and some rears just cause the rear drums suck when u gotta change em.
Function and form but mainly function. Big brake kit a waste of money? Won't notice the difference? WTF are you talking about. Rear brakes don't do much? They don't do as much as the front, yes. But that doesn't mean they are not worth upgrading. Kind of like rear tires don't do as much as the front so why do we need them?
Chances are if you don't notice a difference you are not "driving" your car. I wouldn't need brakes either if I didn't go over 15mph.

I like 4-wheel discs but it would NOT be my first brake mod to go with rear discs.
Bigger fronts with a bigger piston'd m/c and better booster will stop sooner/better than any rear-disc'd equipped car with stock smaller-sized front brakes.
This is not debatable.
As a first brake upgrade rear discs don't do **** IMO.
I'd take GS-R front brakes with reaqr drums over rear discs and stock Civic-sized fronts any day.
Now if you've already got bigger front then rear will not hurt by any means. They do help balance the braking, but again as a first upgrade I think it's silly.

Well obviously the best thing to do is buy all four brakes and the master cylinder at one time. Unfortunately I don't have the money for that and my drum shoes are pretty much eaten up. So rather than changing the shoes, I'm just going to do the conversion so next time I have to change them it's not such a pain. It won't hurt my 60-0 if I do this, but it'll save me time later. So I thin,k in my case, the rears should come first.

No, you will NOT notice the difference between a larger disc and smaller one using the same pad.
No, it is not worthwhile to upgrade unless you're tired of working on drums, you will NOT see decreased braking distance.
No, you shouldn't be driving hard enough on the street to notice the difference in fade between rear drums and rear discs.
If you had any knowledge of how brakes work you wouldn't have made the post that you did. You obviously need to read up on and learn some things before trying to tell me that I'm wrong.
Bottom line: stock brakes are very capable, you just need some better pads and fluid to appreciate this. A rear disc brake is a waste of money for street "performance." Above that, a big brake kit is even more of a waste of money unless the vehicle is a race car.
Example: I was doing an HPDE at the track 2 weeks ago. I was running my stock braking system (with axxis ultimates up front and superblue fluid) on my hatch. I was able to stop from 120mph in a short distance, consistently.
Oh, and if you truly do "drive" your car you'd know that the rear tires do a lot (moreso than the rear brakes).

Ive never had 4 wheels disc before on any of my past 4 hondas. But i recently picked up a 94 EX sedan for a new project, and it has 4 wheel disc. After doing some hard braking to see how it feels, its definatley much improved and more resposnsive than drum.
BUT i wouldnt go out and drop the cash to do the swap if i didnt have em. I would definatley upgrade the fronts with the 11" fastbrake kit, cause i love that. Soon ill go 11" fastbrake all around
(DISCLAIMER: This is My opinion)

I would have to agree with many that the front and rear discs do stop the vehicle substancially better. I know this because I have had disc/drum and now disc/disc.
I also have abs but it is not connected. This is in an EJ.
Also, IMO the disc/disc looks better.

ASE certification in brakes - yeah i don't understand brakes
I'm not even going to get into the not notice on the street saying that you posted.
If you want to say that ^^^ then you don't need....turbos ,built engines, lowering springs, struts, wheels, JDM parts and all the rest of the stuff people do to their cars. For on the street. So tell people on honda-tech that they are all stupid and need to reasearch more cuz it's not needed on the street and at least 75% of people on here are on the street with their cars everyday and wil never actulally be a track car.

Called a proportioning valve, all 4 wheels should lock up at close to the same time. if they don't then do some research on how to made it work right.
nevermind, i was saying the thing about the tire to be a smart ***.
