Just curious. You'd think Honda or Acura of America would have kept the original front-end from the j-spec integra. This would have saved millions in designing, engineering, and testing.

i thought it was the other way around.. didn't first integras in japan had 94 spec front end?

i've read on here that jdm front end doesn't pass safety req. in US.

Try again...the USDM (and everywhere else in the world basically) was the ORIGINAL design for the Integra (the 94 model of the states). They later changed the front end to the "JDM" front as we know it in Japan afterwards. Why? Not sure of the official reason, but I've heard people say due to the consumer reaction over there (they liked the G2 style better).

So...there you go.

It wasn't redesigned.

The Japanese market Integras were redesigned, all of them, not just the Type-R. The car sold well here, why would they bother putting that dopey-looking jap-crap on the US market cars?

World wide 94-95 integra all got the 4 round headlight.
People in Japan really dislike the look and in 96 all integra in Japan got the so called JDM front end.
The rest of the world kept the 4 round lights and all got face lift in 98 like we did here in the US.

They did keep the original front-end. It was Japan who changed later on to it's exclusive Accord-style front-end

I would have to agree to a point, but consider other than the type r the jdm market has always been a sort of diffrent style like the crx/civic they get the b16a with glass roof inverted hood the 90-93 integ get 1 piece headlights and so does other models honda make. and its not just honda who holds back pn diffrent style.

As of right now, the main reason why the JDM front appeals to me is that it's more exclusive. Yeah, it's not entirely uncommon, but there are like Integras for every other house on the street. And well, it does look a bit cleaner, too.

Sombody didnt catch the sarcasm.

It was a joke. Insinuating how I am now "cool" because my car was JDM all along.

I have to agree. Don't like the JDM style front end, the USDM front looks much better

It isn't exclusive. Don't fool yourself. They are getting pretty common. Yes, there are tons more usdm front, but then again there are MILLIONS of integras running around, so that is to be expected. But in the car-enthusiast world... it is nothing exclusive.

And what George is saying, and not insinuating, is that you are mistaken, your car is not JDM. The change in Japan was made in 96.

Your 97 doesn't qualify.

Ok, let me break it down since nobody is getting it.

The post was about "Why was the state-side Type R redesigned."

Then people said how the original JDM Tegs had that same front end when they first appeared, and it was later changed to the more common "JDM front end".

My sarcastic remark was to say how I was "cool" and "JDM" all along because the original JDM Tegs had the common USDM front end.

Does that make any sense at all? I'm sorry you guys didnt pick up on the sarcasm. I know its hard to express emotions like that in writing.....or I just went about it completely the wrong way.

Chris - who laughed at the original joke.

Whats funny is I have another argument going on a hip-hop board I frequent over a sarcastic remark I made there. Like you said I tried to explain it, but nobody would get it. I think I'll just stop with the sarcasm.

I'm glad someone got it though. lol

so we have sarcasm in response to sarcasm, in response to sarcasm...

...the original JDM 94, 95 is actually univeral/worldwide 4 round headlights, switch in 96...

...so in 97, JDM is "Accord Style"...so US 97 is now non JDM when compared to 97, but in the overall scheme of things....

Sarcasm is hard to pick up on the web. I pasted a thread that I posted on H-T recently to about 10 friends, most I know in person, 1-2 that I have met once. I pasted it to them BEFORE I posted on H-T. Everyone got it, everyone thought it was humorous, funny, sarcastic, insightful. Too bad the thread went up in flames and I was completely misunderstood, even got a few 'bandwagon haters' that didnt' understand my original intent. Pretty funny.

Anyways, I guess you have expect that half of everyone on the internet takes everything at face value and absolute truth.

It's all matter of opinion on which front end you like better. I have to agree with the Japanese that the four round headlights is wack- not only are the one piece JDM lamps more functional in that they house a foglamp, highbeam, turn signal, and city light in the same piece as the lowbeam, but they also have a less light restricting glass cover, black background, and they delete the cheapest crappy plastic turn signals ( USDM amber corners ) on any car ever.

just my two cents on the latter part of this topic.

You know what is funny about this? The usdm front is actually more functional...
with a lower CD than the JDM front.

exactly...it's purely a matter of opinion. Whoever is happy to fork over $5000 to buy, modify, install, and paint this damn hype onto there car ....should do so knowing you just replaced something you already have....why get another fender, hood, bumper, and lights...it just seems redundant.... It just doesn't make sense...to put something on that does nothing but make you feel like you have the bigger dick then the next guy....are people that insecure....****. purely an opinion...... cynical sarcsasm

I say to each his own. I like the JDM front end alot, mainly because it is a rare site over here. Especially where I'm from (where I have a better chance of getting hit by lightning than seeing another Type-R) Unless I hit millions in the lottery I aint forkin over that kinda cash for somthing like that. I like my front well enough.

Ok then why even buy an intake... So you can Suck more than your next guy. Don't hate the JDM front end because you love it... Hate it because your girlfriend loves it too!
