After watching the new BM vdo...
the sp00m 2L race spec PY ITR kicked some major 455!
it had 225/45R16 F & 195/55R15 rear tires. The vdo didn't state the sus set up but I'm guessing it's 18Kf/16Kr according to the sp00m's website.
Assumming this is true and that the RealTime guys are using about 14Kf/20Kr springs w/ same size tires on front and rear, I wonder what the better set up is?
-lot stiffer sus in the rear w/ same size tires front & rear
or
-slightly softer springs in the rear w/ narrower tires in the rear
Maybe it doesn't make a difference, b/c they both accomplish the same end result...increased slip angles?
This question may not take all factors into account, but I just thought it was interesting in the differences of sus set up between the US style and JDM style.

when yoshi goes cruisin' for jailbait, he puts the 16 year old h00chies in the front, and the 15 yr olds in the back, too. crazy JDM-style!

As far as the funky JDM wheel/tire combo ... I Dunno. Whatever works I suppose.
However, on my nice little "jaunt" home from Ohio yesterday, I realized that my suspension setup still leaves room for improvement (maybe I should just slow down .... nahhh).
If you think about it, all the GS ITRs with their 225/205 combo are using the method preferred in Japan. I think I'll stick with this method, it works well enough.
Yoshi - THANKS !!! The VDO is AWESOME! I owe you one big time.

yoshi - who has some more g00dies that should be coming from JDM land s00n

I mentioned this in the competition forum, but I found out that Sp00m's springs rates I mentioned at the top was wrong. It's actually STIFFER

there are many ways to achieve the balance one would want in FWD. i mentione it previously, Japanese track are usually in much better condition than US. they have glass smooth surface and we have bumpy tracks in general. you can use a variety of tricks to balance the car, that includings different tire size, wheel offset, tire compound (lot of choices in Japan, very little here)...
in US nearly all FWD racecars are setup with stiffer springs in rear than the front. almost all uses same size tires all around (part of it is regulation)... with that said, will these so called japanese race suspension work well here? maybe it well, maybe it won't.

yoshi - who will try out a JDM-like set up but not the supa stiff springs like sp00m
Well the comparrison to the GS ITRs is a little warped...I say that (having been a GS ITR for a few years) because what we do with the differential tire size in GS is to rotate the car in relatively slow and tight Solo2 courses. I dont think many GS'ers would think to run the same set up on a high speed road course, you're more or less asking for trouble with THAT much ability to rotate.
Just my opinion

Are the Bridgestone RE-O540 sold in Japan only? Anyone know?
yoshi - who's scared to find out what they'd charge for special order
