Default EP3 Shifter ?

The other day I test drove a 2002 si hatch. The guy that went with me had a hard time "finding" first. Anyways, we just started it out in 2nd.
He pulled over and let me drive the car.
After a few tries it ended up in first gear.
And we were off...
1st, 3rd, and 5th did not make any noise or anything when you put it in those gears...
And 2nd, 4th, and reverse made a louder than normal "pop."
I then rolled down the window and you could hear it go in gear, but the shifter didn't let you know when it was in gear.

Before I buyed something like that, I wondered if anyone else has seen this problem.

another thing i saw wrong. the fabric around the drivers seat hole was coming loose from the red plastic.
the car only had 5800 miles on it....

What he said. Fast 'n Furious test drivers (or perhaps salespeople that can't find first). No problems with my Si's shifter.

12k on my SI and no problems yet. There have been a few cases where the synchros in the gear box werent cast right and had excess metal on them, causing grinding while shifting. But as far as the interior, thats just abuse.

I've heard about aftermarket intakes snagging the shift cables. When my EP was new getting into 2nd had a slight delay and made a louder then normal "snick" when new. Now that I have more miles it's always smooth as butter.

you don't need to use the glove box to get into it. Just slide your fingers down the shift boot and grab and pull. you'll need to slow down when you remove the top part.
