Gotta Windshield Crack : How to fix it?
I have a small crack about less than a inch in diamter, i don't want it to get bigger so i want to fix it asap. Is it fixable? I just went to a shop and they told me i had to replace the whole windshield for $145. or they could inject something in the area and prevent it from cracking more, but they said it won't make the crack go away. it'll still be there. Is the shop trying to make me buy a new windshield or is that they only way? Any suggestions would be appreciated?

I would make every attemt on getting your oem window fixed.. Most of the places that replace the glass use really crappy glass that is all distorted and they NEVER install the new windshield correctly.
To install correctly they must cut all of the old urethane out of the area and the grind the area to the metal and apply TWO new tubes of urethane.
The way most shops do it is just cut the urethane bead with a razor knife so it is flat and slap some more urethane right back on top of the old and slap the windshield in. Urethane doesn't bond to urethane very well.
Watch the install if you get it done and make sure they do it right!
Back when my 93' GS-R's windshield got broken they told me it would cost $500 to get an oem replacement and used a junky one, I could see massive amounts of distortion through the glass and I made them replace that one as well.. NIGHTMARE!
THIS IS INCORRECT and will lead to movement and possibly the glass comming out of your car. BE WEARY!

That just happened to me yesterday. I have a chip about the size of a quarter and I called my insurance company and they'll send someone to fix it for free. I'll let you know how good of a job they do as it will be done today!!!
I would avoid havin the entire windshield replaced. Too much money, hassle and if not done right, it could leak. Plus its only about 50 to have the windshield repaired.

Nope. There was a thread on this a couple of weeks ago. In the US and Canada, we have the same windshield glass as the rest of the Integras. I had my windshield replaced by insurance last year for a rock chip - no out of pocket expense. I checked part numbers for '98 and '00 GS-R's and Type R's, and the Honda part numbers are the same.
I forced my insurance company to use OEM glass, NOT aftermarket. They will argue that PPG makes glass for Honda, and therefore would be the same quality. I told them that I would only let a windshield that said "Honda" on it be used. Minimal screaming and they complied.
BTW, insurance will typically only replace the glass for small cracks like that if they are in the driver's line of sight. Otherwise, they patch it with some clear glue-like stuff. You'll still see the crack, but not as much, and it will keep the crack from spreading, which is the key.

Hey craig, how does that work? I heard that shortly after I moved down here but never got the details on it...that's pretty cool though, due to the damn trucks on the highway i'm sure!
UPDATE: I just called the insurance and they are going to come and fix it tomorrow. Thats good because i don't have to go out and pay someone to do it. THanks for the help guys!!

Jason, just like tjtruong said. Simply call your insurance company and they will send someone out to fix/replace it. Not sure to what extent they deside to fix or replace it. On of my frinds did this to his Mercedies. He had a crack on the pasanger side and the insurance company would only fix it and not replace it. So every day he went out to his car and hit the crack with a hammer (put a cloth over the hammer) and tapped the window making the crack bigger and move to the driver side also. Needless to say, 1 month later he had a new window (PPG btw).

I don't know about you guys, but I stay as far away from trucks as I can. If i get on an interstate and there is a truck infront of me, I will slow down enough so there is about 10 to 15 car length between us. Then I try to get over a few lane and pass him. I just cringe (sp?) every time I'm driving down the road and I hear that painfull noise of tiny rocks bouncing off of the body panels. Plus with a black ITR, every single chip can be seen because the undercoat/primer is white.. oh well such is life.
